Verdict: The Lavod 8GB MP3 Player with Earphones was a real, low-cost swimming and sports player, but it is now a difficult legacy purchase. A July 2016 review described fixed 8GB storage, physical controls, a clothing clip, bundled swimming earphones and an IPX8 claim to 10 meters. That review listed $20.99 and rated it 8.5/10; neither figure is a current price or an independently reproduced test result. As of August 18, 2026, no reliable current retail listing, official product page or support channel for this exact model is established.
What the Lavod player is
This is a standalone digital music player designed for swimming, running, gym sessions and other sports. It stores local audio rather than streaming from Spotify, Apple Music or a phone. “With earphones” means the package included swimming-oriented wired earphones with retention clips—not Bluetooth earbuds.
The available product evidence is mainly TheTechHacker’s July 27, 2016 review. That article does not establish a precise model number, an official manual or a current manufacturer support page. Do not merge its specifications with other Lavod products such as the LHV-545, which appears in separate resale listings.

Waterproofing: what the IPX8 claim means
The review calls the player IPX8 and interprets the rating as protection to 10 meters. IPX8 is not one universal depth-and-time test: the manufacturer defines the conditions for a particular product. The label alone therefore does not prove unlimited immersion or safety at every depth.
A surviving unit may have cracked plastic, deteriorated seals, a corroded connector or damage from impact, heat, chlorine or salt water. Those conditions can defeat water resistance even if the original product was sold with an IPX8 claim. Unless a seller can document current condition and testing, treat a used example as non-waterproof and do not risk it during a swim.
Design and controls
The physical-button layout and rear clip suit exercise: operation is possible without a touchscreen, and the player can attach to clothing, goggles or a bag. The shared connector is less convenient. A missing or failed cable can prevent listening, charging and file transfer, while moisture around that connection is a particular concern.

The review does not document supported operating systems, transfer software, charging voltage, connector compatibility or supported audio formats. Do not assume it will work with a USB-C phone, a modern tablet, current macOS or Windows, or a generic cable simply because the plug looks similar.

The button functions of this music player are defined in a straightforward manner, and operation is extremely convenient.

- [Battery Life] This MP3 music player has a built-in 110mAh rechargeable battery that can play music continuously for 15 hours at medium volume. It takes approximately 2.5 hours to fully charge. Note: Don't directly support iTunes music. You will need to convert the files to MP3 format and transfer them using the included USB cable.
Earphones and comfort
The bundled earphones use an ear clip, a swiveling earbud and three silicone tip sizes. Clips can reduce losses while swimming or running, and the correct tip is important for a stable seal in water. Ear shapes differ, however; the original reviewer’s 9/10 comfort score is a subjective opinion, not a universal fit guarantee. Replacement earphones may be harder to source than replacement players.
Sound quality and everyday usability
The review awarded sound quality 8.5/10, but supplied no frequency-response, distortion, codec, volume-limit or controlled-comparison measurements. It is reasonable to view the Lavod as a basic local-listening device, not an audiophile player. Physical controls are useful during workouts, while navigation may be less convenient if the unit has no display—something the available feature description does not settle.
The absence of Bluetooth is not automatically a disadvantage underwater: Bluetooth links generally do not remain reliable through water. It is still a major limitation for users who expect wireless headphones, phone integration or streaming.

Battery, charging and file transfer
The reported eight-hour playback figure belongs to the 2016 review. A lithium battery stored for roughly a decade by August 2026 may provide far less capacity, refuse to charge or swell. Ask for a recent playback and charging demonstration rather than relying on the old estimate.

Because the same 3.5 mm-style connection reportedly handles audio, charging and data, the original cable is essential. Before paying, confirm that the cable is included, undamaged and able to make the player appear on a computer. The evidence does not confirm whether modern phones can transfer files directly, which formats are accepted, or how the 8GB is formatted.
Storage in practical use
Eight gigabytes is enough for a modest offline collection, but it is fixed and not expandable. Actual music capacity is lower after the device reserves space. Song count depends on bitrate, file format, metadata and artwork; the review does not establish whether MP3 is the only supported format or whether WMA, WAV, AAC or FLAC work.

Used or old-stock buying checklist
- Request the exact model number and clear product photos.
- Verify that it powers on and holds a charge during a recent demonstration.
- Confirm the original charging/data cable is included.
- Ask the seller to show a computer recognizing the player for file transfer.
- Inspect and test the connector for corrosion, looseness and audio dropouts.
- Test every physical button and indicator.
- Confirm the swimming earphones are present.
- Check for all three silicone tip sizes.
- Inspect the rear clip for cracks or weak tension.
- Ask whether any waterproofing claim is based on current testing or merely copied from the old specification.
- Buy only with meaningful return rights covering battery and connection faults.
- Check shipping origin, import charges and the seller’s condition grading.
Better choices in 2026
Dedicated modern swimming player
Choose this when underwater listening is the priority. Look for a stated immersion rating with test conditions, supplied swimming earphones, a current warranty and a replaceable or well-supported charging solution.
Current clip MP3 player
This is usually better for running, walking and gym use. Favor physical controls, USB-C, stronger documentation, expandable storage and accessible replacement parts; do not assume a clip player is suitable for swimming.
Used branded player
A used Sony, Philips, SanDisk or similar device may have better documentation, but battery age and parts availability still matter. Ordinary branded players are generally not waterproof.
Phone and headphones for non-underwater exercise
For land-based workouts, a phone or modern supported player offers easier file management and streaming. It is not an underwater substitute unless the complete audio system is explicitly rated for immersion.
Final verdict
The Lavod’s original concept was sensible: inexpensive fixed-storage playback, physical controls, a clip and swimming earphones in one package. On paper, the 2016 review’s feature set was strong for $20.99. In 2026, age-related battery failure, an unusual shared cable, uncertain file compatibility, absent support and unverified waterproofing make it a cautious used-market curiosity rather than a dependable recommendation. Buy only a complete, tested, returnable unit at a low price; otherwise choose a currently supported swimming or clip player.
