At their reported August 2025 launch price of ₹14,999 for the 6GB/128GB versions, neither phone is the clear choice for everyone. Pick the Lava Play Ultra if you want an AMOLED display, near-stock-style software and listed optical image stabilization (OIS) on the main camera. Pick the Redmi 15 5G if you value a larger screen, a higher refresh-rate ceiling, a larger stated battery, reverse charging or more storage options. Those are launch prices—not verified October 2026 prices—so check current pricing and stock before buying.

Which phone is better for your priorities?
Choose the Lava Play Ultra for AMOLED and listed OIS
The Lava’s 6.67-inch AMOLED panel is the option to consider if you specifically want AMOLED rather than LCD. Its listed 64MP main camera includes OIS, a hardware feature that can help counter camera movement. Neither the panel specifications nor the camera hardware alone prove that the phone looks better or takes better photos in practice.

Choose the Redmi 15 for a bigger screen and higher refresh-rate ceiling
The Redmi has the larger display at 6.9 inches and a stated adaptive refresh-rate ceiling of 144Hz, compared with the Lava’s 120Hz. Its screen is LCD, not AMOLED, and the listed peak-brightness figures do not establish how either display performs in every setting. A refresh-rate ceiling also does not mean every app will run at that rate.
Choose the Redmi 15 for battery capacity and reverse charging
Redmi lists a 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, 33W wired charging and 18W reverse charging. Lava lists a 5,000mAh battery and 33W charging. The Redmi has the larger stated capacity, but these figures alone cannot tell you how many hours or days either phone will last: no matched battery test is established here.

Choose based on storage needs and software preferences
Lava’s listed storage tops out at 128GB, while the Redmi is offered in a listed 8GB/256GB configuration. At launch, the reported 8GB/128GB Lava cost ₹16,499, versus ₹15,999 for the 8GB/128GB Redmi. Mint characterized Lava’s interface as close to stock Android, with no ads or bloatware; treat that as a launch description, not an audit of the phone’s current software. Redmi launched with HyperOS 2 based on Android 15.

What should you verify before buying?
- Check the live price and exact configuration. The ₹14,999 figures are reported August 2025 launch prices for the 6GB/128GB variants, not confirmed current offers. Verify the seller’s price, stock and RAM/storage variant before checkout.
- Compare the screen type you actually prefer. Lava offers AMOLED; Redmi offers a larger LCD and a higher stated refresh-rate ceiling. Decide which trade-off matters more rather than treating one specification as a complete picture of display quality.
- Match storage to your use. If 128GB is not enough, the cited comparison lists a 256GB Redmi variant. Confirm that exact option and its current price.
- Read update commitments as promises, not delivery records. The launch comparison reports two years of Android updates and three years of security patches for Lava, and two years of software updates and four years of security patches for Redmi. It does not verify updates delivered or the current software state.
Does the Lava Play Ultra’s IP64 rating mean it is waterproof?
No. Mint explains that IP64 is intended to protect against dust and splashes or light rainfall, not submersion. Do not treat the Lava Play Ultra as waterproof or deliberately expose it to water.

Choose using the verified features you value, not an unsupported performance or image-quality ranking.
