LastPass and Keeper both store passwords and help fill them in, but their current plan descriptions differ most clearly on device access and household accounts. LastPass Free limits access to one device type; Keeper’s UK personal page lists unlimited devices and sync. For families, LastPass lists six Premium accounts, while Keeper Family lists five users and 10 GB of secure file storage. Neither comparison establishes a price winner, and the available security information is not enough to call either service safer overall.
What each service offers
Both services cover the basic password-manager workflow: saving credentials and helping you fill them in. LastPass also describes password generation and autofill across devices on its personal-products page. The details that matter for a choice are the plan’s device limits, household sharing, authentication options, and current regional price—not just the brand name.
How the plans compare
| Plan detail | LastPass | Keeper |
|---|---|---|
| Free or individual plan | Free lists unlimited password storage and basic sharing, but access is limited to one device type. The page’s price fields do not establish a current price here. LastPass pricing | Keeper’s UK personal page lists unlimited password storage, unlimited devices and sync, secure password sharing, fingerprint and Face ID login, and 24/7 customer support. Its price fields are blank. Keeper UK personal and family plans |
| Family plan | Families is described as including six Premium accounts. Current price is not established by the page content available here. LastPass pricing | Family is listed for five users, with unlimited shared folders and 10 GB secure file storage. The UK page’s price fields are blank. Keeper UK personal and family plans |
| Hardware MFA | The pricing chart indicates hardware MFA is unavailable on Premium and available on Families and business plans. Check the live plan chart for current details. LastPass pricing | A Keeper company article lists FIDO2/WebAuthn devices among supported two-factor methods, but it does not establish current availability on each consumer plan. Keeper’s 2022 security article |
The LastPass details come from its official plan pages. Keeper’s cited consumer plan details are from a UK-localized page, so they should not be treated as a statement of US availability or price. Confirm the current plan and regional terms before subscribing.
Which one fits your device needs?
Choose based on how many device types you use
If you need a free option and can keep access to one device type, LastPass Free may fit that constraint. If you expect to use a password manager across multiple device types, the one-device-type limit is important: check the paid plan terms rather than assuming Free will sync everywhere.

Which one fits a household?
The listed account counts are not identical: LastPass Families includes six Premium accounts, while Keeper Family lists five users. Keeper’s UK page also lists unlimited shared folders and 10 GB of secure file storage. The extra account on LastPass does not establish better value without comparable regional prices, renewal terms, and any add-on costs.

LastPass’s 2022 incident
Keeper’s December 2022 article says LastPass disclosed theft of customer vault data during an incident in August 2022 and describes passwords as encrypted while URLs and other metadata were not. This account comes from a competing vendor; it should be read as Keeper’s characterization, not independent confirmation. The evidence here is insufficient for a balanced, independently corroborated account of the incident’s mechanics or for a definitive security ranking. Keeper’s account of the LastPass breach
Keeper’s reported extension bug
In an August 2022 article, Keeper co-founder and CTO Craig Lurey said a researcher found a Keeper browser-extension bug in 2017, that Keeper patched it within 24 hours of confirming it, and that Keeper reported no customer-data loss associated with it. This is Keeper’s statement, not an independent evaluation. Keeper’s article on its security history

What to verify before you subscribe
- Open the official plan page for your country and compare the exact individual or family tiers you would use.
- Check device limits and sync behavior on the chosen tier, especially if you are considering LastPass Free.
- Confirm the number of included household accounts and whether shared folders or secure file storage meet your needs.
- Check current prices, renewal rates, trial terms, and add-on charges. The pages cited here do not establish a current US cost winner.
- If hardware MFA matters, confirm that your plan supports the specific type of security key or other factor you intend to use. The available information does not establish exact current key compatibility across consumer plans.
How to decide
For a single user, start with device access: LastPass Free’s one-device-type limit is a concrete constraint, while Keeper’s cited UK Personal offer lists unlimited devices and sync. For a household, compare the included user count and storage needs against live regional pricing. Treat each provider’s security descriptions as vendor claims, and do not infer an overall safety winner from the material summarized here.
