Astraeos is the largest map in the broad ARK catalog covered by current sources, with a stated total area of 264 sq km. But if you mean ARK: Survival Evolved, the ARK Official Community Wiki identifies Genesis: Part 2 as that game’s largest map. The answer depends on which ARK game you play—and what each area figure counts.
Which ARK map is the largest?
For the combined catalog of ARK: Survival Evolved and ARK: Survival Ascended, Astraeos is the current answer in the sources checked. The ARK Official Community Wiki lists it as an ARK: Survival Ascended expansion map released in February 2025, with a stated total area of 264 sq km. For ARK: Survival Evolved, the wiki calls Genesis: Part 2 the game’s largest map and its final canonical map. So a simple answer without naming the game can be misleading: Astraeos is the broad-catalog answer, while Genesis: Part 2 is the answer for the original game’s catalog.

Why map-size rankings are difficult
Total area is not the same as area available at launch
Astraeos illustrates the distinction: its stated total area is 264 sq km, while over 70 sq km was ready to explore at launch, according to the ARK Official Community Wiki. Map layout changes what “large” feels like
Genesis: Part 2 is a colony ship with two rings: one with green terrain and normal creatures, and another with corrupted purple terrain and hostile creatures. Land, caves, and dungeons may be counted differently
The ARK Official Community Wiki describes Ragnarok as roughly 2.5 times The Island’s land mass and roughly four times its total size, while explicitly excluding its extensive cave networks and dungeons from those figures. Nintendo’s separate 144 sq km description does not specify a shared method with that comparison. These values should not be merged into a single precise ranking.
