L0p4Map is a Python desktop application for discovering devices on a network, scanning targets with Nmap, and exploring results in an interactive topology view. Its project documentation also describes traffic capture and monitoring features. It is aimed at security researchers and network administrators, but it requires several dependencies and elevated privileges for some operations.
What L0p4Map does
L0p4Map combines network discovery, host fingerprinting, Nmap scanning, and visualization in a graphical application. The project describes its interface as built with PyQt6 and says it supports Linux, Windows, and macOS; these are project-stated capabilities, not an independent compatibility audit. The project README is the source for the feature descriptions below.
Find and identify hosts
The application can discover local hosts using ARP and an IEEE OUI vendor database. It can resolve hostnames through multiple methods and infer device roles from observed characteristics. These identifications are useful clues, not guaranteed device identities: the project sources provide no independent accuracy measurements.

Scan targets with Nmap
L0p4Map documents scanning individual IP addresses, CIDR blocks, and ranges, with Nmap integration for SYN and UDP scans, operating-system detection, service-version detection, and NSE scripts. It also describes banner collection and vulnerability-related checks. Treat those checks as prompts for follow-up investigation rather than proof that a system is vulnerable; the available sources do not establish scan accuracy.
Explore a topology and traffic
The interactive topology view offers hierarchical and force-directed layouts, subnet overlays, and device details. The README says routed targets are grouped beneath their last-hop router, and that the graph can be exported as CSV or PNG. L0p4Map also documents packet capture and traffic summaries, filtering by device or protocol, CSV export, traceroute, configurable graph refresh intervals, and passive ARP/mDNS monitoring with alerts for newly observed devices.

What you need before installing
- Python 3.11 or later and Nmap, listed by the project as requirements.
- Npcap or libpcap for packet-capture functions.
- Elevated privileges for ARP scanning and packet capture. The README specifies running as Administrator on Windows and using root privileges for relevant operations on Linux and macOS.
- For Windows, the project specifies installing Npcap in WinPcap API-compatible mode.
Exact installation steps can change with releases and packaging. Consult the README for the current source-install instructions for Linux, macOS, and Windows, or for its Arch User Repository route, and check the release notes before following older instructions.
How mature is the release and packaging?
The official release history lists version 1.0.3 as a packaging-fix release. Earlier entries include entry-point and build fixes; the 1.0.0 notes call it the first stable release and describe range cartography and embedded service fingerprinting additions. Release labels and feature notes describe the project’s own changes; they are not independent quality or performance evaluations. Check the release history for the current version and changes.

A Kali Linux packaging request was submitted on May 23, 2026, and the tracker record showed it as open/new. That indicates a request was filed, not that Kali accepted or shipped a package. View the Kali tracker record for its status.
When L0p4Map is a fit
Consider it if you want one graphical workspace that joins local host discovery, Nmap scans, topology exploration, and traffic visibility. Before relying on it, confirm that your operating system, Python version, Nmap setup, packet-capture library, and privilege requirements match the current project instructions. The available sources do not provide independent benchmarks, comparative testing, or measured identification accuracy, so they cannot establish how it performs against other tools.
