The Koala Pillow 2nd Gen is an adjustable foam pillow with a reversible summer/winter cover. At Koala Australia’s checked listing price of A$155, its appeal depends on whether you value changing the feel and switching cover sides enough to accept a foam core that cannot be washed. Koala also offers a 120-day trial and a one-year warranty on the listing; check the live terms before buying.
What the Koala Pillow 2nd Gen offers
Koala describes the pillow as a foam design with adjustable firmness, a removable cover and two different cover surfaces. The summer side uses CoolThread fabric and a layer with PolarBands; the winter side is described as organic cotton. The cover flips between the two, so the seasonal feature is a reversible surface rather than a change to the core.
Koala says the foam contains 16% bio-based content derived from soybean oil. It also says the winter-side fabric uses material equivalent to four recycled 500 ml PET bottles. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent material assessments. See Koala’s Australian product page and materials information.

Can you adjust the firmness?
Koala’s instructions describe three feel settings: zip both sides for a firmer feel, unzip for a softer feel, or leave the zippers at an intermediate setting. That gives the owner a way to alter the pillow without adding or removing separate fill. The product information does not establish a measured loft range or quantify how much the firmness changes, so treat the settings as adjustable feel rather than a precise ergonomic fit system.

How convincing is the cooling claim?
Koala reports that its R&D test found the summer-side core surface was 2.73°C cooler after six hours than the first-generation Koala Pillow. This is Koala’s own result, with the previous Koala generation as its baseline; the product page does not establish that it was independently tested or that the result applies to other pillows, rooms or sleepers. It is evidence for a relative comparison within Koala’s product line, not a guarantee that every user will sleep cooler.
CHOICE has a page titled “Koala Pillow 2nd Gen review”. The available page information showed a $155 listed price and a $145 purchase price, but did not expose a score, test method or verdict. It is therefore not possible to use that excerpt to substantiate an independent cooling or comfort result.

Care: wash the cover, not the foam
- Remove the cover from the foam core and close its zippers.
- Turn the cover inside out and wash it with like colours on a cold, gentle cycle.
- Line dry the cover in the shade. Do not bleach, soak, rub, wring, tumble dry, iron or dry clean it.
- Let the cover dry completely before putting it back on, and align the Summer/Winter labels correctly.
Do not wash the foam core. Koala’s care instructions are on its product page. The separate second-generation cover is not intended to fit the older pillow/cover, because the new cover is designed to work with PolarBands technology, according to the Koala Help Centre. No specific replacement cover or third-party part compatibility is established in the available product information.

Warranty: what the one-year term means
Koala’s listing says the pillow has a one-year warranty. Its written homewares and bedding warranty covers repair or replacement for eligible manufacturing or material defects, subject to conditions and exclusions. The warranty is personal to the original purchaser and applies while that purchaser resides in Australia. The written document is dated 17 June 2024, so confirm it is still current and read its terms before relying on coverage: Koala’s homewares and bedding warranty.
