What do the reported ticket prices mean?
The figures below were reported from different sources and may use different fee treatments. They are dated snapshots rather than synchronized quotes for the same seat and quantity.
| Figure | What it represents | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| $1,180 starting price | Displayed starting price for the October 20 game | SeatGeek schedule listing retrieved October 3, 2026; time-sensitive marketplace snapshot. SeatGeek listing |
| $1,346 get-in price, including fees | Reported secondary-market entry price for the opener | TicketIQ’s 2026 article; not a synchronized comparison with SeatGeek’s starting price. TicketIQ report |
| $215 final get-in price | TicketIQ’s reported figure for the preceding season’s home opener | TicketIQ’s historical comparison in 2026; it said its $1,346 snapshot represented an approximately 526% year-over-year increase against this figure. TicketIQ report |
| Average increase of 12% | MSG Sports’ announced rollback target versus the prior season’s prices | Company statement reported by the Associated Press on September 17, 2026; an average target, not a verified price for every seat. Associated Press report |
Why did the opener’s prices become a story?
On September 17, 2026, the Associated Press reported that MSG Sports had paused individual ticket sales after the opener’s get-in price exceeded $1,000. The company said it was rolling prices back to the previous season’s prices plus an average increase of 12%, restarting sales with new prices, and refunding the difference to customers who had already bought individual tickets. That announcement describes the company’s plan; it does not verify the eventual refund for every buyer or establish today’s asking prices.

How to compare listings and find a better price
- Open Ticketmaster’s Knicks listings and the relevant resale listings on SeatGeek and TicketIQ. Confirm each listing is for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Madison Square Garden.
- Match the quantity and seat location as closely as possible. Compare the same number of adjacent seats in the same section or with a similar view; a cheaper listing in a different location is not an equivalent deal.
- Advance to checkout on each marketplace and compare the final total for the seats you selected. Check how fees are presented rather than comparing one site’s starting price with another site’s fee-inclusive total.
- Note when you checked each listing, then recheck immediately before purchasing. Inventory and prices can change, and a search-result price is not a promise that the seats remain available at checkout.
Ticketmaster says ticket prices depend on factors including seat location and purchase timing, while the reported resale figures are separate snapshots. The available figures therefore cannot identify a universally cheapest source; your best price is the lowest current checkout total you can confirm for equivalent seats.
