The Kmart Anko SL153B is a discontinued bagless barrel vacuum with a modest independent test result: CHOICE reported a 67% Expert Rating in its article last updated 3 September 2024. CHOICE called it one of the better results among the Anko vacuums it tested, but still “not a great score.” That makes it hard to recommend over a currently available vacuum with comparable independent cleaning results, especially if parts and long-term support matter to you.
Verdict: a budget vacuum with a middling test result—and limited reason to seek one out now
The SL153B’s strongest case was its low-cost selling context. CHOICE’s product record shows $49, but also marks the model discontinued; that price is not a current offer or evidence that a new unit is available. If you already own one and it suits your floors, the published information does not establish that it must be replaced. If you are shopping now, compare currently available models rather than assuming you can readily buy this exact Anko.
CHOICE’s 67% overall rating is the useful independent benchmark, but the public sources do not show the model’s detailed cleaning, carpet, ease-of-use, pet-hair or noise subscores. The rating therefore supports a cautious, not categorical, verdict: the SL153B performed comparatively better than other Anko vacuums in that tested group, yet it was not a standout in the wider market.
What CHOICE’s public test information tells you
CHOICE’s article, last updated 3 September 2024, reported the SL153B’s 67% Expert Rating and described it as one of the better Anko results, while noting it was not a great score. The exact model’s test breakdown is member-only on CHOICE’s product page, so the overall rating cannot tell you precisely how it handled carpet, pet hair, noise or day-to-day use.

The 1.1 L measured bin is relatively small in practical terms: expect to empty it more often than a model with a larger capacity, depending on how much debris you collect. The 7.2 m reach and 4.6 kg weight offer concrete points to compare with another vacuum, but do not by themselves establish how easy the SL153B is to move or use; the public test breakdown does not provide that detail.

What owners say—and what their reviews cannot prove
ProductReview’s page snapshot shows 3.7/5 from 172 reviews and identifies the SL153B as discontinued. Ratings and review counts on the platform can change. These are self-selected owner accounts, not controlled tests, so they are best read as examples of individual experience rather than reliable estimates of failure rates or cleaning performance.
Positive owners describe value and everyday cleaning. Negative accounts mention clogging, noise, a floor head some users disliked, tipping, durability concerns and the effort of cleaning the filter. That spread suggests the vacuum may satisfy some basic household needs while frustrating others; it does not establish how common any problem is.
