The Kioxia EXCERIA PRO G2 2TB is a high-end PCIe 5.0 SSD with rated sequential speeds of up to 14,900 MB/s read and 13,400 MB/s write, plus a 1,200 TBW endurance rating. Those are manufacturer maximums, not a promise of the speed you will see; an independent review describes it as efficient and especially strong in 4K random-read latency, but not the fastest drive in its class. Whether it is worth buying depends on your PC’s M.2 support, cooling, local price, and warranty coverage.

Is the Kioxia EXCERIA PRO G2 2TB worth it?

It is worth considering if you have a PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slot, want a high-end drive for demanding client workloads, and can buy it with clear regional warranty and return terms. Its headline strengths are very high rated sequential throughput and substantial rated endurance. The trade-off is that the maximum specification does not make it the fastest in every workload: Tom’s Hardware’s September 12, 2026 review characterized it as high-end and efficient, with low 4K random-read latency, while finding it behind the fastest direct peers.

That is a reviewer’s finding from its own test setup, not a universal ranking across all PCs or workloads. Consider the drive on its specifications and the independent review together, and weigh them against what your system can support. For a listing, search for Kioxia EXCERIA PRO G2 2TB NVMe SSD; confirm the capacity, seller, import status, return terms, and warranty region before ordering.

How fast is the Kioxia EXCERIA PRO G2 2TB?

Kioxia rates the 2TB model for up to 14,900 MB/s sequential reads and 13,400 MB/s sequential writes. Its stated maximum random performance is up to 2,250,000 IOPS read and 1,950,000 IOPS write. Kioxia says its sequential results were measured with CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4 x64 at Q=32, T=1, and random results with the same software at Q=32, T=16. The figures are best values from Kioxia’s specific test environment; performance can vary with the device and file size.

These figures are useful for comparing the product’s rated capability, but they are not guaranteed results for an individual PC. The host platform, workload, file size, and cooling all influence what a buyer experiences. Kioxia’s EXCERIA PRO G2 Product Brief v1.0 says it “warrant[s] neither read nor write speeds in individual devices.”

Tom’s Hardware lists the tested 2TB drive’s controller as Silicon Motion SM2508, its DRAM as Nanya LPDDR4, and its flash as Kioxia BiCS8 218-layer TLC. These are component identifications reported by that reviewer, not a promise in Kioxia’s product brief.

Will this M.2 2280 PCIe 5.0 SSD work in your motherboard?

The 2TB model is a client SSD in the M.2 Type 2280-S3-M form factor, with an M-key connector, PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, and NVMe 2.0d. Before buying, check the computer or motherboard specifications rather than relying on the slot’s appearance alone.

  • Slot and protocol: Confirm an available M.2 M-key slot that supports NVMe storage.
  • Generation and lanes: PCIe 5.0 x4 host support is needed to make use of the drive’s rated Gen5 interface performance. A compatible lower-generation slot may allow operation, but the maximum rated interface speed will not be available.
  • Physical fit: Check that the system supports a 2280 drive and has enough clearance for the SSD, any motherboard heatsink, and nearby components. Kioxia lists the 1TB and 2TB models at 80.15 × 22.15 × 2.38 mm.
  • Platform support: Verify the specific system’s BIOS and operating-system support. The published compatibility information does not establish compatibility with every motherboard or laptop.

Does the EXCERIA PRO G2 need a heatsink?

Kioxia describes an innovative label intended to help with heat dissipation and performance stability during heavy workloads. That manufacturer claim does not establish that the label replaces a motherboard heatsink or adequate case airflow. Check the cooling provisions recommended for your system and the space available above the M.2 slot. If the system lacks suitable M.2 cooling, a compatible 2280 heatsink may be appropriate, but no particular heatsink has been validated here.

  • High Storage Capacity: Available in capacities up to 2TB, ideal for large files like 4K videos and extensive photo libraries.

Kioxia lists typical active power for the 2TB model as 8.4 W. That specification is relevant when considering system cooling, but it is not a temperature measurement or a guarantee that the drive will remain at a particular temperature under every workload.

How much TBW does the 2TB EXCERIA PRO G2 have?

Kioxia rates the 2TB drive at 1,200 TBW. TBW means terabytes written and is an endurance rating based on the JEDEC JESD219A July 2012 SSD endurance workload, as identified on Kioxia’s product comparison page. It is not a prediction of the exact service life of an individual SSD.

The manufacturer’s warranty is up to five years, but it ends at the earlier of the applicable period from purchase in original sealed packaging or the drive’s SSD Utility health gauge reaching zero Percentage Life Left. Check the warranty terms that apply to your purchase region and keep proof of purchase. A TBW rating and warranty limit are separate measures; neither guarantees that a particular drive will last for a specific number of years.

What about availability and warranty region?

Tom’s Hardware reported that Kioxia did not officially distribute the drive through US retail at the time of its September 12, 2026 review and warned that Amazon.com listings might be imports. Distribution and marketplace listings can change, so treat that report as time-specific rather than a statement about current stock. Before purchase, verify the seller identity, whether the unit is imported, the return policy, and which regional warranty applies. A listing’s presence on a marketplace does not by itself establish manufacturer warranty coverage.
