The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate GT 2TB was promoted as the world’s largest-capacity USB flash drive when it launched in 2017. That is a historical claim, not a verified ranking for 2026: Kingston now lists the DTUGT/2TB as discontinued, and its current standing against other drives has not been established.
What the “world’s largest” claim referred to
Kingston announced the DataTraveler Ultimate GT on January 4, 2017, in 1TB and 2TB versions. The company said “GT” stood for “Generation Terabyte,” and compared the drive with its 1TB DataTraveler HyperX Predator introduced in 2013. In a March 1, 2017 shipping announcement, Kingston described the 2TB model as the world’s largest-capacity USB flash drive. That wording applies to the launch period; it does not establish which USB flash drive is largest today. Kingston’s January 2017 announcement and March 2017 shipping announcement provide the historical context.
Is the DTUGT/2TB still available?
Kingston’s parts page identifies model DTUGT/2TB and marks it discontinued. The listing does not establish whether any particular seller has genuine stock, what condition a unit might be in, or what it should cost. Kingston’s discontinued listing also does not establish a current global capacity ranking. Check Kingston’s DTUGT/2TB parts listing for its status.

Source: Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate GT US datasheet (©2020). Kingston specifies USB 3.1 Gen 1 performance with a USB 3.0 or 3.1 host port. The datasheet lists compatibility with Windows 10, 8.1, 8, and 7.1 SP1; Mac OS 10.10.x and later; Linux 2.6.x and later; and Chrome OS. Those are the manufacturer’s published compatibility details, not a guarantee for every current computer, operating-system release, or device configuration.
What to expect from the capacity and speed
Usable capacity is less than the label
The 2TB designation is the listed capacity, not a promise that exactly 2TB will be available for files. Kingston notes that formatting and other functions use some of the flash storage, leaving less space for data.
Rank #2
- USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds
- Premium metal casing
- Large capacities
Rated speed depends on the host and workload
The 300MB/s read and 200MB/s write figures are Kingston’s ratings. They are conditional on the host and actual use; the datasheet specifically cautions that performance varies with hardware, software, and usage. They should not be treated as a guaranteed speed on every port or as a measured result for a particular file transfer.
Should you look for one?
The DTUGT/2TB may interest someone seeking this specific legacy model, but its discontinued status means availability and seller claims need checking. Before buying a used or old-stock unit, verify the exact part number, seller identity, condition, return terms, and authenticity. If you need a high-capacity flash drive for current use, compare presently available models using verified usable capacity, transfer performance on your devices, dimensions, warranty, and availability rather than relying on the 2017 superlative.
