Yes—KINGDOM HEARTS IV is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, with Square Enix placing its release in late 2027. That is a different game from KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III], the collection of older titles scheduled for Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. The distinction matters: the earlier Kingdom Hearts games on the original Switch were cloud-streamed, while the new collection is a native Switch 2 release.
What is coming to Nintendo Switch 2?
KINGDOM HEARTS IV, the next mainline entry, is confirmed for Switch 2. Nintendo’s June 10, 2026 Direct recap said the game would be available at Switch 2 launch, while Square Enix’s later announcement gives the more specific release window: late 2027. Square Enix lists the game for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, so it is not a Nintendo exclusive.

Square Enix describes Sora and familiar characters journeying through Quadratum, a mysterious city where Heartless cause havoc, before traveling to worlds inspired by Disney and Pixar. Why the four-year gap matters
The comparison is between two very different kinds of Switch availability. In January 2022, Square Enix announced cloud versions of older Kingdom Hearts games for the original Nintendo Switch. Cloud play streams the game over the internet rather than running a native Switch version on the console. Those Switch cloud products stopped being sold on June 9, 2026. Square Enix says they are scheduled to remain playable until June 9, 2027, at 14:59 UTC. What is KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III]?
KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] is a separate package of earlier games, not another name for KINGDOM HEARTS IV. Square Enix announced it for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows, with an October 8, 2026 release date. The collection brings together three bundles:
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX
- KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

The physical edition has a specific download requirement: an internet connection is needed to download additional data. Square Enix also says that the included game bundles are digital-only within the collection. The physical format therefore does not mean every part of the package is supplied on the cartridge.

Which one should you look for?
If you want the next mainline story
Look for KINGDOM HEARTS IV. It is the game confirmed for late 2027, but it is not the October 2026 release.

If you want to play older games on Switch 2
KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] is the relevant release. It is scheduled for October 8, 2026 and is described as non-cloud. If choosing the physical edition, plan for the required additional-data download.
If you already own the original Switch cloud versions
Square Enix announced a digital Switch 2 upgrade path with a qualifying-owner discount and save transfer. The physical collection does not qualify for that discount. Eligibility and purchase details depend on the qualifying digital ownership described by Square Enix, so check its official service notice before buying or transferring.
