If you want KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue by itself on Switch 2, choose digital: Nintendo’s U.S. listing labels the standalone game “Digital.” The physical option confirmed by Square Enix is a larger collection with three Kingdom Hearts releases, including 2.8, and it requires an internet connection and an additional data download. A standalone physical 2.8 cartridge is not confirmed by these listings.

Which should you buy?
Choose digital if you want 2.8 by itself
The standalone Nintendo listing is the direct option if you only want HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Nintendo estimates its download at 26.9 GB. That figure applies to the individual digital game, not to the extra data required by the physical collection.
Nintendo lists TV, tabletop, and handheld play, single-player play on one system, and American English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Its current listing gives an October 8, 2026 release date; those are storefront details, not post-release verification.

Choose the physical collection if you want the other games too
The physical product Square Enix identifies is KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III], not a standalone physical 2.8 edition. It bundles HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) alongside 2.8. It makes sense if you want that broader set of games and specifically value owning a physical package.
Physical does not mean download-free in this case: Square Enix says the collection requires internet access and an additional data download. The store listing does not give the size of that download, so Nintendo’s 26.9 GB estimate for standalone digital 2.8 cannot be used to estimate it.

Does the 50% discount apply to you?
Nintendo says existing owners of the KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Cloud Version may be eligible for a 50% discount on the Switch 2 version. Square Enix also describes a 50% discount for qualifying digital owners on Switch Cloud, PS4, or Xbox One. These are conditional offers, not a general discount for every buyer, and the terms can differ by store or region. Check eligibility and the price shown in your own account before purchasing; do not assume the promotion applies to the physical collection.
What is included in 2.8?
Nintendo describes the standalone package as three experiences leading toward KINGDOM HEARTS III: Dream Drop Distance HD, the HD movie KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover, and 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –. Square Enix describes the collection as bringing together three key adventures, with 0.2 serving as a link to KINGDOM HEARTS III.
