Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima hopes Grand Theft Auto VI’s reported US$80 standard price will make it easier for other studios to charge more. That is his argument for a possible precedent—not evidence that players have accepted US$80 as the new standard or that publishers will follow suit.
What did Martin Klima say about GTA VI’s price?
In an interview reported by PC Gamer on October 1, 2026, Klima said studios are wary of raising the price of a game, even though he sees it as one way to bring in more revenue. He hopes GTA VI will “blaze the trail” and make it easier for other developers to increase prices.
Klima’s reasoning, as PC Gamer described it, is that development costs are rising while studios have fewer additional revenue avenues: audiences cannot grow indefinitely, and digital sales leave less room to expand revenue through other routes. This is his explanation for wanting higher unit prices, not a separately measured finding about every studio or game.

How much is GTA VI, and what do the editions cost?
PC Gamer reported that Take-Two confirmed a US$80 price for GTA VI in June. A later report from SavePoint Gaming, dated October 6, 2026, lists these US prices:

Does GTA VI’s price show that players will accept US$80 games?
No. A reported price for one major release and Klima’s hope for a precedent do not establish that consumers broadly accept the higher price, or that other publishers will adopt it.

There is also reporting that some highly engaged players are price-conscious. Video Games Chronicle reported on October 2, 2026, that a survey found 62% of the most engaged video game players no longer buy full-price releases and instead wait for discounts in the weeks and months after launch. The figure is VGC’s account of a survey; its methodology and underlying results are not independently established here, so it should not be read as a definitive measure of all players.

How does Take-Two defend the price?
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has framed the company’s approach as a question of value. In remarks reported by GameSpot on August 7, 2026, he said the company’s goal is to deliver “way more value to consumers than what we charge them” and described GTA VI as an “incredible bargain.” Those are Take-Two’s stated views, not independent proof of the game’s value or evidence that buyers agree.

Will other publishers raise game prices if GTA VI sells for US$80?
That remains uncertain. Klima wants GTA VI’s price to make increases easier for other studios, but the reporting does not show an industry-wide plan or establish that other publishers will copy it. Whether the price becomes a precedent depends in part on how players respond—a question the cited reports do not settle.
