On Kindle e-readers, Special Offers appear as screensavers while the device is asleep and as sponsored items on the home screen. If your Kindle was bought with ads, Amazon lets you remove them with a one-time payment—but there is no universal price. Check the amount for your specific device in your Amazon account before deciding.
Where Kindle Special Offers appear
Amazon says Kindle e-reader ads appear in two places: as screensavers when the Kindle is in sleep mode and as items marked “Sponsored” on the home screen. Some Kindle models are offered at a subsidized price in exchange for personalized advertising.
Kindle e-reader ads are different from Fire tablet ads
Fire tablets are not Kindle e-readers. Amazon describes Fire tablet ads as appearing on the lock screen, with sponsored tiles also appearing in the Continue and Discover row. The placements described for Fire tablets should not be assumed to apply to a Kindle e-reader.

Amazon displays the fee for the selected device before you confirm removal. To see the amount attached to your Kindle:
- Open Amazon’s Manage Your Devices page and select Devices.
- Select the Kindle e-reader you want to update.
- Under Special Offers, select Remove offers.
- Review the price in the pop-up window. You can stop here without confirming the charge.
- If you accept the displayed amount, select End Offers and Pay the Fee.
Amazon says the fee is a one-time payment charged to your 1-Click payment method. The exact labels may vary as Amazon updates its account pages, so follow the options shown for your device.
Why there is no single removal price
Amazon describes the one-time payment as covering the difference between a device’s price with and without lock-screen ads. The amount shown in Manage Your Devices is the relevant figure for the Kindle selected in your account. It can’t be established from Amazon’s general instructions as one fixed price for every model or marketplace, so check your own device rather than relying on a price quoted elsewhere.

What to compare before buying or removing offers
If both options are available for the Kindle model and Amazon marketplace you are considering, compare the purchase price with and without ads against the later removal fee displayed for your device. Also consider whether you are comfortable seeing sponsored content on the sleep screen and home screen. Availability and prices can differ by model and marketplace; Amazon’s general help information does not establish current model-by-model prices.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
