Connect the camera’s micro-USB port to your computer, open the VTech removable drive that matches its model number, then copy the files manually. Connecting the camera does not start a transfer automatically. Finish copying and safely eject the drive before unplugging the cable.
Before connecting, identify your Action Cam model
Check the model number on the camera or its packaging. The original Kidizoom Action Cam (1707), Action Cam 180 (5070), and Action Cam HD (5202) can appear under different drive names, and folder instructions are not interchangeable. Use the drive named for your camera, not VT SYSTEM, which contains system data.

These folder names and drive labels come from VTech’s original Action Cam (1707) manual, Action Cam 180 (5070) manual, and Action Cam HD (5202) manual. The HD guide identifies the drive name but does not establish the complete folder instructions here.

- Connect the small micro-USB end of the cable to the camera, then connect the other end to a USB port on the computer. Use the included cable if available.
- Wait for the camera to appear as a removable drive. Open the VTech-named drive matching your model: VTech 1707, VTech 5070, or VTech 5202. Do not use VT SYSTEM for photos and videos.
- To back up recordings, open the model’s backup folder and copy the desired files to a folder on the computer. For the original model, look in DCIM; for Action Cam 180, look in DCIM/100VTECH.
- To put files onto a camera, use only the upload folders specified for that exact model. The original and 180 manuals name DOWNLOAD/PHOTO and DOWNLOAD/VIDEO; the original manual also warns that files made by other cameras may not be compatible.
- Wait for copying to finish, use the computer’s safely-eject option for the removable drive, and then unplug the cable.
VTech’s FAQ for the original Action Cam explains that “The picture transfer operation does not start by itself.” Open the drive and copy files yourself; captured images are under DCIM. For JPEG images intended to be viewed on the original camera, the FAQ identifies DOWNLOAD/PHOTO.KIDIZOOM. Follow the guide for the exact model and file type when uploading, because folder directions can vary by model and task. See VTech’s original Action Cam support FAQ.

If the camera does not appear or files seem missing
- No automatic import: This is expected. Wait for the removable drive to appear, open it, and copy files manually.
- Unfamiliar drive name: Check the model number and match it to the VTech drive label above. The system-data drive, VT SYSTEM, is not the media drive.
- Action Cam 180 files seem absent: If a memory card is installed, VTech says the removable drive displays the memory card’s contents only. Check the card’s displayed contents rather than expecting the camera’s internal files in that view.
- Uploads fail: Confirm the model-specific upload folder and file type in that model’s guide. The original manual cautions that media created by other cameras may not be compatible.
- Cable is missing or damaged: Check that the camera connector is micro-USB and that the computer has a port compatible with the cable before obtaining a replacement. VTech documents the camera-side connection but does not validate particular third-party cable listings.
Operating-system compatibility
VTech’s 2015 manual for the original 1707 model lists Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 8 and Mac OS X 10.6–10.10 as its requirements at that time. That dated list does not establish compatibility with current Windows or macOS releases, or compatibility across the 5070 and 5202 models. If the drive does not mount, confirm support for your specific camera and computer rather than relying on that older list.
