If you want extra USB ports within easy reach, look for a keyboard with a built-in USB hub. These are keyboards with ports integrated into the keyboard itself—not covers placed over a keyboard. Available layouts and port configurations vary, so check the exact model and its compatibility with your computer or tablet before choosing one.
What a keyboard with a USB hub does
A keyboard with an integrated USB hub gives you ports on the keyboard for connecting peripherals. For example, Raspberry Pi describes its keyboard hub as a way to connect devices such as mice and USB drives to a Raspberry Pi. The ports are part of the keyboard’s design; a separate keyboard cover does not add ports.
Do not assume that every integrated hub supports the same data speeds or charging performance. The product pages cited here do not establish those details consistently across models.

Compare the layout, ports, and host connection
Before choosing a model, compare its physical layout and footprint, port count and types, host connector, and compatibility with the device you plan to use. A compact keyboard may save desk space, while a model with a numeric keypad or full-size layout may better suit your typing habits.

- Layout: Confirm whether the keyboard is mini, compact, or full-size, and whether it includes a numeric keypad.
- Hub ports: Check the exact number and type of ports on the specific model. Similar-looking keyboards can have different port mixes.
- Host connection: Verify how the keyboard connects to your computer or tablet and whether that connection works with your setup.
- Compatibility: Check the manufacturer’s stated compatibility, particularly if you plan to use a tablet or a single-board computer.

When a keyboard dock is a better fit
A dock or gaming control center is a different product from a keyboard with an integrated hub. CORSAIR’s LAPDOG combines a keyboard dock, mouse pad, and powered USB 3.0 hub for couch gaming. CORSAIR designed it for specific K65 and K70 keyboard families, so check compatibility rather than treating it as a universal cover or keyboard accessory.

How to choose
- Choose the layout first. Decide whether you need a mini or compact footprint, a numeric keypad, or a full-size keyboard.
- Match the ports to your devices. Confirm the number and types of hub ports on the product page for the exact model.
- Check the host connection. Make sure the keyboard’s connection suits the computer or tablet you intend to use.
