Neither Keeper nor LastPass is the right choice for everyone. Keeper is a strong fit if its documented security features and passkey support suit your devices and you are comfortable with its price and possible add-ons. LastPass may suit households that want six separate accounts under one Families plan, but its 2022 theft of customer vault backups is an important trust consideration. Its separate 2026 supplier incident involved business and CRM data; LastPass said vaults and product infrastructure were not affected.

Compare the plans you would actually buy, the devices you use, and the incident history you are willing to accept. Prices and feature availability can vary by region and checkout terms.

How the security histories differ

LastPass’s 2022 vault-backup theft

LastPass disclosed that an attacker copied a customer vault backup from cloud storage. Its December 22, 2022 notice said the backup contained unencrypted information such as website URLs, while sensitive fields such as usernames and passwords were encrypted using AES-256 and keys derived from each user’s master password. In its March 1, 2023 update, LastPass said the copied data included customer metadata and vault backups. It specified that URLs, file paths to installed LastPass software on Windows or macOS, and certain uses involving email addresses were not encrypted. The company also said end-user master passwords were not stored by LastPass and were not part of the stolen data. LastPass’s March 2023 update

This was theft of vault backups, not merely an incident involving unrelated contact records. Encryption protected sensitive fields, but it does not make the copied backups irrelevant: the unencrypted information was exposed, and the incident remains a material factor when deciding how much to trust the service.

LastPass’s 2026 supplier incident

In a June 22, 2026 notice, LastPass said a threat actor used OAuth tokens obtained in a Klue supplier incident to access data in LastPass’s Salesforce environment. The company described the affected information as business contact and CRM data, support-case data, and sales-related data. It said vaults and product infrastructure were not affected. That is LastPass’s account of the incident, not an independent verification. LastPass’s June 2026 incident notice

What the comparison does—and does not—establish about Keeper

Keeper’s official documentation describes layered vault security and its FIDO2 and passkey support. The cited material does not establish a neutral comparative finding that Keeper is categorically safer, nor does the absence of an incident in this comparison prove that Keeper has never experienced one. Treat documented design and published incident history as separate parts of your decision.

Which plan is better value?

Start with the number of people who need accounts, then compare the features you will actually use and the final checkout price. Keeper’s cited prices are specific figures from a help page updated April 1, 2026; the page does not state all regional, promotional, or renewal conditions. LastPass’s official pricing page lists Premium and Families, but the captured price fields are dynamic, so a cached figure may not match your checkout.

  • For an individual: compare Keeper Unlimited’s listed annual price with the live LastPass Premium offer in your region, including renewal terms and any feature you would otherwise buy separately.
  • For a household: LastPass explicitly states that Families includes six Premium accounts with independent encrypted vaults. The Keeper pricing information cited here does not establish a comparable account count, so verify the current Keeper Family plan details rather than assuming an equal allowance.
  • For add-ons: Security.org’s 2026 comparison reports add-on costs for some Keeper features. Those are observations from its comparison, not a universal statement about every plan or user; check the current plan page and checkout. Security.org’s 2026 Keeper vs LastPass comparison

Authentication: hardware keys, biometrics, and passkeys

A hardware security key is a physical authenticator used as an additional sign-in factor. Keeper documents FIDO2 hardware-key support, and LastPass lists FIDO2 authenticators among its hardware MFA options. Neither should be assumed to include the same key support on every plan or device; confirm the precise requirements before purchasing or setting up a key.

Passkeys are different from using a hardware key as a second factor. Keeper describes a passkey as a cryptographic credential for signing in without entering a password and a second factor. Its help article says passkeys are supported on Android 14 and later and iOS 17 and later. The cited LastPass plan page does not establish equivalent passkey availability, so check current documentation for your platform instead of inferring that the feature is absent—or identical.

Biometric unlocking is also device- and configuration-dependent. Before choosing on authentication alone, verify which options work on your phone or computer, which plan includes them, and whether you want a second factor, passwordless sign-in, or both.

Usability and extras: check the workflow, not just the feature list

Password managers are most useful when their browser and mobile workflows fit the devices and accounts you use. Compare the browser extensions and apps you rely on, how each handles saving and filling credentials, and whether sharing or recovery features meet your needs. The cited comparison does not establish that one product is universally easier to use, so a feature checklist should not be treated as a hands-on verdict for every setup.

Security.org’s 2026 comparison includes hands-on observations, but its usability findings reflect that comparison rather than every device, plan, or user. Its report of Keeper add-on costs is a prompt to check the current checkout total—not proof that every customer needs an add-on.

Choose by your priorities

  • Lean toward Keeper if its documented security approach and supported passkeys fit your devices, and the plan’s price and any needed add-ons make sense for you.
  • Lean toward LastPass Families if six separate Premium accounts match your household and its live plan terms work for your budget, while you are willing to weigh its disclosed incident history.
  • Pause before subscribing if your decision depends on an exact current price, a specific passkey or hardware-key configuration, or a family account allowance that is not confirmed by the cited plan details. Check the vendor’s current terms for those exact requirements first.

There is no neutral comparative statistic in the cited sources that proves one service is categorically safer. Decide based on your own trust threshold, platform support, household needs, and the price and features displayed at checkout.
