The film was Mrityudaata (1997). Jaipur contestant Almas Khan recalled falling asleep during a childhood screening at Raj Mandir theatre and waking after the movie had ended. Amitabh Bachchan joked that she could not have watched it while she was sleeping.

Which film did the KBC 18 contestant fall asleep during?

It was Mrityudaata, the 1997 action drama starring Amitabh Bachchan. According to The Indian Express and Hindustan Times, Almas Khan told Bachchan she had seen the film as a child at Jaipur’s Raj Mandir theatre with her cousins.

Khan said the theatre’s beauty and air-conditioning made her comfortable enough to fall asleep. She woke when the film was over and Bachchan’s song was playing. The movie did not make much sense to her as a child, she recalled, but it remained the first Bachchan film she had seen in a theatre, according to Hindustan Times.

What did Amitabh Bachchan say?

The Indian Express reported Bachchan’s Hindi response as: “Ek min thehar jaayie, sote sote kaise dekli aapne? Picture toh khatam hogayi, toh kya dekha aapne?” The outlet translated it as: “Wait a minute, how did you watch it while sleeping? The film ended, so what exactly did you watch?”

The joke pointed to the contradiction in Khan’s memory: she counted Mrityudaata as an early moviegoing experience while saying she slept through it and woke after it ended. The exchange is reported by the outlets; an independently confirmed episode transcript is not available here.

What happened in the KBC 18 episode?

The Indian Express places the exchange in the September 30, 2026, India Challenger Week episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18. Its report says Khan, a Jaipur-based single mother of two who runs a tiffin service, answered the Rs 12.5 lakh question incorrectly and left with Rs 5 lakh.

Hindustan Times reported that Season 18 premiered on August 10 at 9 p.m. on Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV, with episodes airing Monday through Friday. That schedule does not establish whether this particular episode is currently available on demand.

What is Mrityudaata about?

Hindustan Times describes Bachchan’s character, Dr Ram Prasad, as a doctor drawn into conflict with corruption and crime. The film was directed by Mehul Kumar, and The Indian Express lists Dimple Kapadia, Karisma Kapoor, Arbaaz Ali Khan and Paresh Rawal among the cast.

Both outlets describe Mrityudaata as Bachchan’s return to the big screen after a five-year acting hiatus. Hindustan Times characterizes its reviews as largely negative and says it did not perform strongly at the box office; that report does not provide figures to quantify either assessment.
