KB5072033 is Microsoft’s December 9, 2025 cumulative update for all editions of Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2. It installs as build 26100.7462 on 24H2 and build 26200.7462 on 25H2. The package combines security fixes with improvements from the previous month’s optional preview; it is a dated release, not necessarily the newest update available today. Microsoft’s KB5072033 release notes provide the change list and servicing details.
What is KB5072033?
Microsoft released KB5072033 on December 9, 2025, as a cumulative update for every edition of Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. The version determines the resulting OS build:
| Windows 11 version | Build after KB5072033 |
|---|---|
| 24H2 | 26100.7462 |
| 25H2 | 26200.7462 |
Microsoft says the package includes the latest security fixes and improvements along with non-security updates from the previous month’s optional preview. Because it is cumulative, a device that already has earlier updates downloads and installs only the new updates in this package, according to Microsoft.

- Click to Do and Copilot: It fixes a problem in which choosing Ask Copilot did not activate the Click to Do window as expected. The window should now appear in the foreground when data is shared with Copilot.
- File Explorer: It addresses a brief white flash when navigating between pages, which could occur after KB5070311.
- Virtual networking: It fixes external virtual switches losing their physical network adapter bindings after a host restart. The switch could revert to internal mode, interrupting virtual-machine network connectivity and server operation.
- PowerShell 5.1:
Invoke-WebRequestnow displays a confirmation prompt warning about the risk of script execution from web content. Microsoft points to CVE-2025-54100 and KB5074596 for further details. - AppX Deployment Service: Appxsvc’s startup type changed to Automatic to improve reliability in some isolated scenarios. Microsoft’s December 15, 2025 changelog says this feature was included in KB5072033.
How do I install KB5072033?
The right route depends on how the PC or organization manages updates. Microsoft lists Windows Update, Windows Update for Business, WSUS, and manual MSU deployment as delivery options.
| Method | Who controls deployment | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Windows Update | Usually the device user, subject to device settings and rollout timing | Check for updates in Windows Update; the update is offered through the normal update channel when applicable. |
| Windows Update for Business | Organization policy and update-management settings | Deployment timing can depend on the policies configured by the organization. |
| WSUS | IT administrator | Administrators synchronize the update when the relevant product and classification are configured. |
| Microsoft Update Catalog / MSU | User or administrator | Download the applicable individual MSU files and install them in order through DISM or Windows Update Standalone Installer, following Microsoft’s instructions. |
Microsoft says the latest servicing stack update (SSU) is combined with the latest cumulative update (LCU) in this package. Before using manual installation or removal steps, confirm that the package applies to the device and follow Microsoft’s servicing guidance.

- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
Removing the update
Microsoft warns that removing the LCU after installing the combined SSU/LCU package requires DISM with the LCU package name. Running wusa.exe with /uninstall against the combined package does not work because the SSU is included and cannot be removed.
What known issues does Microsoft list?
The KB5072033 page documents two issues and names later updates associated with them. Since KB5072033 is a historical release, these notes alone do not establish whether either issue remains open on a particular device today. Check current Windows Release Health and the relevant later update history before troubleshooting.

- Missing password icon on the lock screen: The icon may be missing or invisible in sign-in options after the August 2025 preview or a later update. Microsoft says this mainly affects enterprise or managed IT environments; personal Home and Pro devices are very unlikely to experience it. The page names KB5074105 as addressing the issue.
- WSL mirrored networking and third-party VPNs: Some third-party VPNs may have problems with WSL mirrored networking after the October 2025 non-security update KB5067036 or a later update. Microsoft says full desktop sessions are not affected and names KB5074109 as addressing the issue.
