Kawasaki Heavy Industries says its K-RACER-X2 unmanned helicopter demonstrated a 200 kg payload—about 440 lb—in a test announced January 12, 2024. The figure is a demonstrated payload, not proof of a certified or routinely available cargo service. And Kawasaki’s published X2 specification does not identify a 1,000 cc supercharged Ninja engine.
How much can the K-RACER-X2 lift?
Kawasaki reported that the X2 demonstrated a maximum payload of 200 kg in test flights. That is approximately 440 lb, a conversion of Kawasaki’s metric figure rather than a separate measurement. Kawasaki’s January 12, 2024 announcement identifies the 200 kg as the aircraft’s maximum payload.
The result is meaningful as a cargo-carrying demonstration, but it should not be read as a guaranteed load for every mission. Kawasaki’s public specification does not provide a full test protocol, a payload-versus-range curve, weather or altitude conditions, or operating certification. In particular, the stated payload does not establish how far the aircraft can fly while carrying that much.
What Kawasaki lists for the X2
Kawasaki’s published specifications describe a remotely operated, helicopter-style unmanned aircraft with vertical takeoff and landing capability. The figures below are manufacturer-reported specifications, not independently verified operational performance.

The range and operating-time figures are listed as minimum values in Kawasaki’s specification; they are not a stated performance guarantee for a 200 kg payload mission. Kawasaki does not publish the conditions needed to connect those figures to a specific cargo load.
Does it have a supercharged 1,000 cc Ninja engine?
That engine description is not established for the X2 by the official Kawasaki materials cited here. Kawasaki lists the X2’s powerplant only as a reciprocating engine and does not state its displacement or identify it as a Ninja engine.

Kawasaki Report 2024 says the broader K-RACER program combines helicopter technology with compact, high-power motorcycle engines. That program-level description is not an X2 engine specification. New Atlas’s January 22, 2024 report associates a supercharged H2R-derived engine with the earlier X1; it also describes the X2 as a different configuration. It would therefore be inaccurate to present the X1’s reported engine lineage as a confirmed X2 specification.

Kawasaki describes K-RACER as a cargo-transport development program. In its Kawasaki Report 2024, the company cites logistics labor shortages and discusses potential delivery to mountain lodges and use in disaster response. These are motivations and intended applications, not evidence that Kawasaki operates a regular delivery network or sells the aircraft as a consumer drone.

The report also describes beyond-visual-line-of-sight demonstrations as planned for 2024. That is a plan stated in the 2024 report, not confirmation here that the demonstrations took place or that the aircraft has an operating authorization.

New Atlas reports that the X1 used a compound, winged arrangement with dual propellers, while the X2 adopts a more conventional helicopter layout. The publication says the X2’s main rotor increased from 5 m on the X1 to 7 m. Those configuration and X1 rotor details are secondary reporting; Kawasaki’s official X2 page independently lists a 7 m main rotor and a 200 kg maximum payload.

The X2’s payload demonstration is not a like-for-like comparison with a commercial cargo service or a stated X1 payload test. Kawasaki’s public material establishes the X2 result, but does not supply a comparable X1 payload figure or mission profile.
