Has the cause of the fall been established?
No. The October 1 report said the emergency call described the woman as having “jumped,” but that wording was not an investigative finding. Gardaí were considering an accidental fall, a deliberate push, or an assault or row near the balcony followed by a fall. The reported circumstances remained unresolved in the coverage available through October 3.

Arrest and release
A man in his 20s was arrested on September 29 in connection with the investigation and later released without charge pending preparation of a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The October 1 report said his relationship to Carey was unclear. An arrest is not proof of guilt, and the reporting does not establish his involvement in her death. Irish Examiner, October 1.
Witness and footage appeal

The October 2 follow-up named the deceased as Kathleen Carey. Her niece, Jasmine Carey, described her as “a kind, loving, and funny person who was full of life.” The follow-up reported that Jasmine had launched a fundraiser to help with funeral costs and support Kathleen’s daughter. The fundraiser’s description called the death a “tragic accident,” but that was the family’s wording for the appeal, not a finding by investigators. The same report said Gardaí were still considering all possibilities pending post-mortem results. At the time of the October 2 article, the fundraiser had an €8,000 target and €1,325 raised; those are figures reported at publication, not current or independently verified totals.
