A Kaspersky analysis of anonymized Safe Kids activity in India found a higher share of recorded activity in the adult-content category on Android than on Windows during the first quarter of 2026: 5.71% versus 1.91%. That is a comparison of activity categories—not the percentage of children exposed, and not proof that Android itself causes greater risk.

What Kaspersky’s India figures show

An August 26, 2026 report by IT Voice, attributing the analysis to Kaspersky, says the company compared anonymized Indian Kaspersky Safe Kids data for Q1 2026 across Android and Windows. The reported adult-content category made up 5.71% of Android activity and 1.91% of Windows activity. The Android share was nearly three times the Windows share.

Operating system in the report Adult-content share of recorded activity Other reported category shares
Android 5.71% Internet, Communication, Media: 39.86%; Software, Audio, Video: 34.89%; Alcohol, Tobacco, Narcotics: 0.26%
Windows 1.91% Internet, Communication & Media: 43.44%; Software, Audio, Video: 34.99%; News media: 8.43%; Computer games: 2.60%; Alcohol, Tobacco, Narcotics: 0.29%

All percentages are activity-category shares reported by IT Voice from Kaspersky’s analysis, not proportions of children. The report does not disclose the number of users or devices represented, or enough methodology to determine whether the data represent Indian children generally. Read the figures as a snapshot of activity recorded by this product, not a national prevalence estimate. IT Voice’s August 26, 2026 report

What the comparison does—and does not—mean

It is Android versus Windows, not a controlled phone-versus-computer test

The headline shorthand “smartphones versus computers” is broader than the comparison described. The report identifies Android and Windows activity; it does not establish that every Android device was a smartphone or every Windows device was a desktop computer. It also does not include iOS or other operating systems in the stated comparison.

Category activity is not the same as a child’s exposure

A 5.71% category share does not mean that 5.71% of children encountered adult material. Nor does a category flag establish that a particular child saw harmful content or experienced harm. The report does not describe a causal study, so the difference cannot show that Android itself makes children more likely to encounter risky material. Device access, supervision and use patterns could differ, but the published account does not quantify those factors.

The largest categories provide context, not a measure of motivation

Internet, communication and media, along with software, audio and video, accounted for substantial shares in both operating-system groups. Those broad categories describe recorded activity; they do not tell readers why children used a service, what specific material they viewed, or whether the activity was safe or unsafe.

How parents can use the finding

The report is a reason to pay attention to how children use mobile devices, not to treat every phone as dangerous or assume a computer is safe. A practical approach combines settings with age-appropriate boundaries and ongoing conversations:

  • Review the device a child actually uses. Check its web, app and content controls rather than assuming settings on one operating system apply to another.
  • Set boundaries together. Explain which content or apps are restricted, why the rules exist, and what a child should do after encountering something upsetting or confusing.
  • Keep communication open. Encourage children to tell a trusted adult about unexpected content without fear that reporting it will automatically lead to losing device access.
  • Revisit the setup. Children’s needs and online routines change; review restrictions and screen-time expectations as they get older.

IT Voice reports that Kaspersky says Safe Kids can prevent visits in real time to adult-content, gambling and other harmful-site categories when a parent has activated the relevant blocks. That is a claim about the product, not independently verified evidence of its effectiveness in every situation. Filters can be one layer of protection; they do not replace supervision, household rules or a child’s ability to ask for help.

Education is another part of online safety

IT Voice also describes Kaspersky’s KidZania India partnership and Cyber Investigation Centres in Mumbai and Delhi NCR, where role-play activities teach children to identify and respond to online threats. Such programs illustrate an education-focused approach, but the report does not provide evidence measuring their impact.
