Western Kentucky wide receiver K.D. Hutchinson reportedly did not travel with the Hilltoppers to Las Cruces for their October 1, 2026 game against New Mexico State. RotoWire attributed the travel report to the Topper Talk Podcast. WKU’s official box score does not list Hutchinson among the participants, but the team has not publicly confirmed why he was absent.
What is known about Hutchinson’s Week 5 absence?
RotoWire reported on October 2 that Hutchinson did not travel with Western Kentucky for its Thursday game at New Mexico State. The account attributed that information to Topper Talk Podcast; it did not name a speaker or provide a direct quote. The underlying podcast item was not separately located.
WKU’s official September 29 preview confirms the scheduled matchup. The game was played in Las Cruces on October 1, and the Hilltoppers lost 34-13, according to the official recap and box score. Hutchinson does not appear in the box score’s participation list, which is consistent with the report that he did not play.

RotoWire mentioned a knee issue but also said Hutchinson was off Western Kentucky’s injury report. That does not establish that WKU formally ruled him out for an injury, and the official recap and box score do not give a reason for his absence. No team-confirmed diagnosis or explanation was located.

Was Hutchinson a healthy scratch?
RotoWire characterized the absence as suggesting a healthy scratch. That is the outlet’s interpretation, not a reason confirmed by WKU. The available information supports the reported travel status and the fact that Hutchinson was not listed as a participant; it does not settle why he missed the game.
