JPMorgan analysts estimate that roughly $50 billion has flowed into digital assets so far in 2026, according to a report that The Block covered on October 8, 2026. The analysts put that year-to-date total at an annualized pace of about $66 billion. They read recent flow data as positive momentum heading into the fourth quarter. The figures are the analysts’ estimate as reported by The Block, not a tally that anyone has independently verified against exchange, fund or on-chain records.
What the $50 billion figure measures
The $50 billion is a composite estimate, not a count of exchange-traded fund (ETF) subscriptions. JPMorgan’s standard version of the estimate adds up four channels:
- Crypto fund flows
- The flow impulse implied by CME futures positioning
- Crypto venture capital fundraising
- Purchases of digital assets by publicly listed bitcoin miners and corporate treasuries
For the updated estimate, the analysts widened the calculation to include purchases by private corporate treasuries, private miners and government-related entities. Those buyers do not show up in public fund or listing data, so the expanded figure depends more on analyst inference than the standard one does. That is one reason the total should be read as an estimate with a defined scope rather than a measured sum.
Year-to-date total versus annualized pace
Two different numbers appear in the coverage, and they answer different questions. The year-to-date total is what has accumulated since January. The annualized pace projects the current rate across a full year, so it is not money that has already moved.

| Measure | Figure reported | Comparison given | Attribution and window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year-to-date flows, 2026 | About $50 billion | Cumulative total at the time of the report | JPMorgan analysts, as reported by The Block, October 8, 2026 |
| Annualized flow pace, 2026 | About $66 billion | Higher than the $52 billion annualized pace recorded in May 2026 | JPMorgan analysts, as reported by The Block, October 8, 2026 |
| Pace relative to the previous year | Around half | Compared with the previous year’s pace, which the coverage does not restate in dollars | JPMorgan analysts, as reported by The Block, October 8, 2026 |
The gap between May and October is the clearest sign of acceleration in the coverage, but it is still a comparison of two analyst estimates built on the same method. It does not show that the underlying flows were steady month to month.
How the year unfolded
The analysts describe two distinct phases in 2026. The first half was driven by different money than the third quarter.

First half: corporate treasuries and venture funding
According to the analysts, most first-half inflows came from Strategy’s bitcoin purchases and from crypto venture funding. ETF flows were a headwind in that period, with heavy outflows in May and June. Corporate treasury buyers funded their purchases with common share sales, debt and preferred shares. The analysts observed a gradual shift away from debt toward preferred shares. Preferred shares carry dividend obligations, and debt carries interest, so the mix change affects the ongoing cost a treasury buyer must cover.
Third quarter: ETF flows and futures positioning
ETF flows improved after August and were positive for the year at the time of the report. Institutional positions in CME bitcoin and ether futures also rose over the two months before October 8. Bitcoin positioning moved above its previous peak, while ether positioning approached its October 2025 high. These are the two indicators the analysts point to when they describe rising participation.

Trend-following traders
The analysts’ momentum signals indicated that trend-following traders, including commodity trading advisers (CTAs), had begun rebuilding long bitcoin and ether positions. Trend-following positions tend to follow recent price direction, so this signal describes how systematic traders are positioned, not what prices will do next.
Bitcoin miners as sellers
Bitcoin miners were net sellers by about $1.8 billion this year, according to the analysts. Most of that selling was attributed to publicly listed miners, and the analysts linked some of it to funding investment in artificial-intelligence infrastructure. Miner sales offset part of the buying in the total, which is why the net figure matters more than gross purchases.

What the Q4 momentum claim actually says
The analysts’ conclusion is the most direct statement in the coverage, and it reads:
“In all, while during the first half of the year the capital flow picture was dominated by corporate treasury buying and venture capital funding, in Q3 both ETF flows and futures positioning have increased pointing to greater participation by both retail and institutional investors, thus creating a positive flow momentum into Q4,” the analysts concluded.

The Block attributes the sentence to the JPMorgan analyst team, which it identifies as led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou, but it does not name an individual speaker for the sentence itself.
The phrase “positive flow momentum into Q4” is an interpretation of two indicators, rising ETF flows and rising futures positioning. It is not a forecast that prices must rise or that inflows will continue. A reader should treat it as an assessment of participation signals, and the coverage does not establish that positive flow momentum guarantees higher prices or continued inflows.
Keep the measurement windows separate
Several figures in this story describe ETF flows, and they use different starting points. Mixing them produces contradictory-sounding conclusions.
| ETF flow measure | Direction at the time of the report | Window |
|---|---|---|
| Net flows for calendar 2026 | Positive | January 1, 2026 through the October 8, 2026 report |
| Cumulative flows since the crypto-market downturn | Still negative | Measured from October 10, 2025 |
| Flows in May and June 2026 | Heavy outflows | Those two months only |
A positive year-to-date ETF figure and a negative figure since October 10, 2025 can both be true. The first counts only 2026; the second starts from the market downturn and includes the losses that preceded this year.
Limits of this estimate
- The source for these figures is The Block’s account of a JPMorgan analyst report. This article has not checked the underlying report, its methodology notes, or the raw data behind the estimate.
- The total is a composite. Part of it, especially the private-treasury, private-miner and government-related components, rests on analyst inference rather than public disclosure.
- The annualized figure extrapolates the current pace. Flows in the second half of the year could differ materially from the first.
- Futures positioning and ETF flows are indicators of participation, not direct measures of buying power or price direction.
Read as a dated, attributed estimate, the $50 billion figure shows that aggregate crypto flows have recovered from a weak first half and that analysts see stronger participation going into the fourth quarter. It does not show how much of that money will stay invested, and it does not predict where prices will go.
