Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee made his first Netherlands appearance since 19 November 2024 when he came on as a second-half substitute against Greece on 1 October 2026. He entered in the 70th minute of a 2-2 Nations League draw. His earlier call-up for the international window was an injury replacement; he did not play in the Netherlands’ Serbia win.
Why was Zirkzee called up to the Netherlands squad?
The KNVB announced on 25 September 2026 that Zirkzee would replace Brian Brobbey, who had been injured during the first half of the Netherlands’ 1-1 Nations League match against Germany. Brobbey was then playing for Sunderland. Zirkzee was due to join the squad in Zeist and travel for the Serbia fixture. KNVB’s call-up announcement
