John C. Reilly wants to reprise Rhomann Dey, the Nova Corps officer he played in Guardians of the Galaxy, but his comments are not a casting announcement. In an October 2, 2026 interview, Reilly said he hoped the character’s story would come back around and that he had not heard from Marvel since discussions during the making of the sequel. A Nova feature film was reported in early development in July 2026; Reilly’s involvement has not been confirmed.
Is John C. Reilly returning as Rhomann Dey?
There is no confirmation that Reilly will appear in the Nova movie. Asked whether audiences might see more of Dey, Reilly told ComicBook.com: “I sure hope so.” He said Marvel had not contacted him, to his knowledge, since speaking with him while making the sequel, and added that he hoped the opportunity would “come back around.”
Reilly also recalled thinking, “when do I get my movie?” after learning about Nova’s story. That remark expresses enthusiasm, not evidence that Marvel has offered him a role or decided Dey belongs in the film. Reilly played Dey in the first Guardians of the Galaxy; the character did not return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

What is the status of Marvel’s Nova movie?
The latest project-format reporting cited here is TheWrap’s July 13, 2026 report that Marvel Studios had a Nova feature film in early development, with Michael Waldron developing it. The report also said Sabir Pirzada had written a previous draft. This is trade reporting about development, not confirmation of a finished script, production schedule, release date, or cast. See TheWrap’s report.

- Other figures - sold separately - come with other Groot parts
- Collect the entire Groot series - other figures sold separately
- Figure comes with right arm part
The project has previously been discussed as a show. In March 2024, Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum described Nova as being in “very early development” and said, “We love Nova.” That was a statement about the project at that time, not confirmation of a released or produced series. A later account reported that the earlier series had been shelved after news of movie development; it attributed the movie report to Deadline. The newer feature-film reporting should not be confused with the older series description. ComicBook.com’s 2024 interview with Winderbaum provides the historical context; ComicBook.com’s July 2026 account covers the shift.

Dey’s possible return connects to an unresolved part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: what happened to Xandar and the Nova Corps. Guardians of the Galaxy introduced the Corps, but it was absent from the sequel. By Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos had the Power Stone previously associated with the Corps, and reporting has described Xandar as presumably devastated when he took it.
Rank #2
- Comic-inspired design and premium articulation
- Includes Marvel’s Titus Build-a-Figure piece
- Collect other Marvel Legends Series figures (each sold separately)
- Action figure size: 6 inches
- Includes figure, 2 accessories, and Build-a-Figure part
That leaves room for a Nova story to address the Corps’ fate, but no specific approach has been reported. A survivor, a flashback, or another explanation for the Corps’ absence are possibilities, not confirmed plot details. The Nova film’s setting, story, and any role for Dey remain unannounced.
