What is known about the new Spotify deal?
Spotify’s October 8, 2026 announcement says the new agreement is a multi-year licensing arrangement. New episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) will continue to be available weekly on Spotify and other platforms. Spotify did not state the agreement’s financial terms.
Where did the $250 million figure come from?
The figure refers to the previous, 2024 agreement. The Associated Press reported that the Wall Street Journal estimated that deal could be worth up to $250 million over its multiyear term, citing people familiar with the matter who were not named. AP also reported that Spotify declined to comment on the deal’s financial details, including that estimate. It is therefore a reported estimate, not an officially disclosed value—and it should not be attributed to the 2026 agreement.
Spotify’s 2024 announcement described a new multi-year partnership and said the show would become available on additional platforms. It did not give a dollar amount.
Is JRE still exclusive to Spotify?
No. Spotify’s 2020 arrangement made JRE exclusive to the service after the show’s September 1, 2020 Spotify debut. The 2024 partnership changed that distribution model: the show would also be available elsewhere. Spotify’s 2026 announcement confirms that new episodes continue on Spotify and other platforms.
What does Spotify say about JRE’s rankings and audience?
Spotify says JRE was the top podcast across all major platforms in 2025. The announcement does not provide a ranking methodology or identify the underlying platform rankings, so this is Spotify’s claim rather than a fully documented cross-platform comparison.
Spotify also says JRE has 18 million followers and has been its most-followed show since the partnership began in 2020. Followers are not the same measure as listeners, downloads, or chart position. Separately, Spotify said in 2024 that JRE had been its top podcast on Spotify Wrapped each year since 2020; that historical claim is not the same as the 2025 cross-platform ranking.
