Jim Rickards has warned that stablecoins could pose a danger to the bond market and, in coverage published October 6, 2026, was reported to forecast gold at $10,000 by mid-2027. These are Rickards’s views, not established outcomes: the available interview listing does not provide a verifiable transcript, and the gold figure is a forecast rather than a confirmed price target.

What Rickards reportedly said

A Bitcoin Magazine video listing dated October 5, 2026, describes an interview with Rickards about stablecoins and a $10,000 gold outlook. Its listing includes a segment titled “Why Rickards Calls Stablecoins the Most Dangerous Thing in the World” at 17:49. The page could not be opened for transcript verification, so the surrounding remarks and precise context are not available. Bitcoin Magazine’s listing is the source for the interview date and segment description.

In an October 6, 2026 report, ChainCatcher attributed to Rickards the view that stablecoins endanger the bond market and the phrase “the most dangerous thing in the world.” That is secondary reporting, not a checked transcript; the phrase should be understood as the report’s attribution of his characterization, not as a fully verified quotation from the interview. ChainCatcher’s report also says he expects gold to reach $10,000 by mid-2027.

Why stablecoins have a connection to government bonds

The bond-market concern has a real market mechanism behind it, even though that mechanism alone does not prove Rickards’s broader warning. The IMF’s October 2025 Global Financial Stability Report: Shifting Ground beneath the Calm says stablecoin issuers already hold significant volumes of short-term government debt and rank among its largest buyers. The report says growth in stablecoins could either create additional demand for short-term sovereign bonds or reallocate demand that already exists. Read the IMF report.

That distinction matters. If stablecoin issuers buy more short-term government securities as their reserves grow, they may add a source of demand. If they instead draw funds from investors who would have held those securities directly or through other vehicles, demand may shift between buyers rather than rise overall. The IMF passage establishes the connection and the possibility of both effects; it does not, by itself, establish that stablecoins threaten the entire bond market.

How to read the $10,000 gold outlook

The $10,000 price and mid-2027 timing are Rickards’s forecast as reported by ChainCatcher on October 6, 2026. They are not an independently validated target, a guarantee, or evidence that gold will reach that level by that date. The available coverage does not provide enough verified interview context to assess the assumptions behind his forecast.

For readers weighing the claim, keep the forecast separate from the stablecoin discussion: one is a reported view about a future gold price, while the other is a warning about possible effects on bond markets. Neither claim, on the available evidence, establishes an investment outcome.
