Jim Keller joined AI-computing company Tenstorrent on January 6, 2021, as president, chief technology officer and a member of its board. Tenstorrent’s current team page identifies him as the company’s CEO, a later role than the one announced at his arrival. [Tenstorrent’s January 2021 announcement; Tenstorrent’s current team page]
When did Jim Keller join Tenstorrent, and what was his role?
Tenstorrent announced Keller’s appointment on January 6, 2021. The company named him president, CTO and a board member as it pursued hardware for machine-learning workloads. Its current team page lists him as CEO; that title should not be confused with the positions in the original hiring announcement. [Tenstorrent announcement; Tenstorrent team]
At the time, then-CEO Ljubisa Bajic said the company was founded on the belief that “the ongoing shift towards ML-centric software necessitates a corresponding transformation in computational capabilities.” Keller described the opportunity this way: “Software 2.0 is the largest opportunity for computing innovation in a long time. Victory requires a comprehensive re-thinking of compute and low level software.” Both statements appeared in Tenstorrent’s January 2021 announcement and express the company’s and Keller’s views, not independently established findings.
