Jim Cramer’s warning was that making money in stocks had become harder, not impossible. In comments on CNBC’s Mad Money quoted by a report dated October 2, 2026, he pointed to rising rates and a Federal Reserve focused on lowering inflation as reasons investors could face a more difficult September-quarter earnings season. The report’s market figures and event dates describe conditions as of that date; they should not be treated as current without checking updated sources.
What did Cramer warn investors about?
“I’m not saying it’s impossible to make money owning stocks in this environment, but it’s certainly a lot harder than it used to be,” Cramer said, according to the October 2, 2026 report from 10x Wealth Report. He was warning of a tougher backdrop as companies prepared to report quarterly results, rather than predicting that investors could not earn returns.
The report also quoted him saying that rising rates and a Federal Reserve determined to bring down inflation had created “a much more difficult backdrop coming up for earnings season.” That quotation, including its bracketed reference to the Fed, is reproduced as the report presented it. The report attributes the remarks to CNBC’s Mad Money; an original CNBC transcript or article was not independently verified.

What market picture did the report describe?
As of its October 2, 2026 publication, 10x Wealth Report characterized the major indexes as moving in different directions:
#1 Best Overall
- The S&P 500 had recorded three losing weeks out of four.
- The Dow had been negative in four of the previous five weeks.
- The Nasdaq had posted two winning weeks in a row and briefly reached a new intraday record.
The report connected the Nasdaq’s relative strength with concentrated leadership in artificial intelligence and technology stocks. It also said five-year Treasury notes were yielding 5%. These are figures and descriptions reported by 10x Wealth Report, not independently checked market data; they are historical snapshots, not live readings.
Why did rates and inflation matter to the earnings outlook?
Cramer’s stated concern was the combination of rising rates and a Fed focused on bringing inflation down. His point, as reported, was that this policy and rate environment made the coming earnings season more difficult for investors to navigate. The report does not establish how particular companies would perform, or that the Fed’s actions would produce any specific market outcome.

Which events were on the report’s October 2026 watch list?
The report’s calendar was a contemporaneous account published October 2, 2026, not a verified current schedule:
- JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and Goldman Sachs were scheduled to report September-quarter results on October 14, 2026.
- Marvell’s investor day was identified as a potential source of updated long-term targets.
- Remarks from New York Fed President John Williams were among the events to watch.
- Levi Strauss and PepsiCo earnings reports were also highlighted.
Before relying on any of those dates or expectations, check the companies’ investor-relations announcements and the relevant event organizers’ schedules. The report also said Levi Strauss shares were down more than 20% from a July 52-week high; that figure is its October 2 account, not a current quote.

The reported remarks are a caution about market conditions, not a forecast that stocks must fall or a recommendation tailored to any reader. The mixed index picture in the report—weakness in the S&P 500 and Dow alongside a rising Nasdaq—also shows why a broad headline may not describe every sector or holding. Earnings, interest rates, and policy announcements can affect securities differently, and the cited report alone cannot establish what an individual investor should buy or sell.
The report disclosed that Cramer’s CNBC Investing Club owned shares of Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, and Broadcom. That disclosure is relevant context when assessing his commentary; it does not establish that the holdings explain his warning.
