Choose the JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 if easy carrying and JBL’s longer advertised battery life matter most. Choose the JBL PartyBox Club 120 if you want its higher published output, two microphone inputs, or a battery you can swap for an optional spare. JBL lists the Encore Essential 2 at 6.2 kg and up to 15 hours of playback; the Club 120 is 11.05 kg and rated for up to 12 hours. Those are manufacturer specifications and maximum claims, not independent performance-test results.

Which one is easier to carry?

Encore Essential 2: better for frequent moving

At 6.2 kg (13.7 lb), the Encore Essential 2 is 4.85 kg (10.7 lb) lighter than the Club 120. Its listed dimensions are 32.0 × 34.2 × 26.0 cm, making it the more practical choice if you regularly carry the speaker between rooms, from home to a car, or to a gathering.

Club 120: bigger and heavier

The Club 120 weighs 11.05 kg (24.4 lb) and measures 28.8 × 57 × 29.7 cm. Its published output is higher, but you take on substantially more weight and a taller cabinet to get it. Consider where it will sit and how often you will need to move it before choosing based on output alone.

JBL Partybox Encore Essential: 100W Sound, Built-in Dynamic Light Show, and Splash Proof Design, Black
  • Nothing beats amazing JBL Original Pro Sound with deep bass.
  • The dynamic light show delivers with fun ring light and a cool strobe effect that syncs to the beat of your music.
  • No plug. No problem. The JBL PartyBox Encore Essential keeps the party going wherever you are with up to 6 hours of play time.
  • Dancing on the beach. Party by the pool. The JBL PartyBox Encore Essential is IPX4 splash proof so you never have to worry about the party getting too wet or wild.
  • One JBL PartyBox not enough. Pair two speakers wirelessly with True Wireless Stereo (TWS) technology for even bigger, bolder sound.

Does the Club 120’s higher wattage mean better sound?

JBL lists 160 W for the Club 120 and 100 W RMS (IEC60268) for the Encore Essential 2. That is a meaningful difference in their published output specifications, but it does not by itself establish how loud either sounds in a particular space or which one sounds better. No independent comparative listening or loudness measurement is available here, so choose the Club 120 for its stated higher output—not on the assumption that wattage proves superior sound quality.

How do battery life and battery swapping compare?

JBL advertises up to 15 hours of music playback for the Encore Essential 2 and up to 12 hours for the Club 120. These are maximum manufacturer claims; actual runtime varies with operating conditions and settings, so they are not a guarantee of how long a speaker will last at a particular volume.

The Encore Essential 2 page does not list its battery as replaceable, so do not assume you can extend its session by swapping in a spare.

Which speaker works better for karaoke or live input?

Both models list microphone and guitar inputs. The key distinction is that the Club 120 has two microphone inputs, while JBL lists one mic input for the Encore Essential 2. If you need two microphones connected at the same time—for example, for two singers—the Club 120 is the clearer fit. If one mic input is enough, both models cover mic and guitar use.

Can you use either speaker outdoors?

Both carry an IPX4 rating, which means splash resistance, not waterproofing. They are not rated for submersion, so keep them out of pools and do not treat either as safe to leave in heavy water exposure. Each also lists a light show, app control, and Auracast support; JBL lists a 3.5 mm input on both models.

What do they cost?

When JBL’s US product pages were accessed on October 7, 2026, they displayed $249.95 for the Encore Essential 2 and $299.95 for the Club 120, alongside promotional reference prices. These are time-sensitive US page prices, not confirmed retailer or Amazon prices; check the current delivered price and availability before buying. The $50 difference at those displayed prices may be worthwhile if you need two mic inputs or a replaceable battery, but the lighter Encore Essential 2 is the more compelling fit when portability is the priority.
