Jagex removed the Dragon Slayer II trailer after RuneScape viewers pointed to a knight with six fingers and other apparent visual inconsistencies. The company apologized, said it was investigating urgently, and acknowledged that its review process should have caught the issues. The anomalies prompted allegations of generative AI use, but they do not independently establish how the trailer was made.
Why did Jagex pull the RuneScape trailer?
The trailer promoted RuneScape’s Dragon Slayer II quest and was shown at RuneFest 2026. Viewers drew attention to a knight with six fingers and other odd imagery, including footwear described in coverage as resembling modern sneakers. Jagex then removed the trailer while it investigated. PC Gamer reported on the withdrawal and response; MMORPG.com also covered the removal.
The visual details led viewers to allege generative AI may have been involved. An extra finger is a conspicuous irregularity, but its appearance alone is not proof of a particular production method.

RuneScape community lead Alec “Mod Sween” Sween said the trailer was produced by a trusted external partner that had explicitly confirmed generative AI would not be used. Jagex has not named that partner in the cited coverage, and the partner’s production process has not been independently established there.

“This trailer was produced by a trusted external partner who had explicitly confirmed that GenAI would not be used. But, among other things, there’s a sixth finger and, well, that’s pretty hard to explain away. For that we apologise.”
Jagex apologized and said it was investigating urgently. Its statement does not establish who, if anyone, used generative AI or how the imagery was created. The cited coverage does not report an investigation result or a date for a replacement trailer.

Jagex’s stated generative-AI policy
Jagex said: “Our position is clear at Jagex: we don’t use GenAI to create our games, artwork or creative assets, and will not knowingly allow it to be used on our behalf.” That is the company’s stated policy; it is not an independent finding about the production of this particular trailer.

Sween also said Jagex should have caught the issues and could not simply shift blame to an outside partner. The company described this as its second recent generative-AI concern involving trusted partners, following a separate concern related to its 100 Thieves clothing collaboration. Jagex said the incidents exposed weaknesses in its own processes. PC Gamer reported Jagex’s comments on its review responsibility.
