The Jabra Elite 8 Active Gen 2 stands out for two reasons: its earbuds carry an IP68 rating, and its charging case can send audio from a USB-C or 3.5 mm source to the earbuds. That makes it a distinctive sports-earbud option, but the case is only IP54, and newer LE Audio features such as Auracast require compatible Android hardware. Its durability and connectivity features are compelling; whether it is right for you also depends on fit, sound, noise control and phone compatibility.
What is distinctive about the Elite 8 Active Gen 2?
Announced on June 11, 2024, the second-generation Elite 8 Active combines workout-oriented earbuds with adaptive hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC), HearThrough ambient listening, Bluetooth multipoint and spatial sound powered by Dolby Audio. Jabra also lists Bluetooth 5.3, an operating range of up to 10 metres and pairing with up to 10 Bluetooth devices. Each earbud weighs 5 g; the case weighs 47.5 g. The box includes three sizes of EarGels and a USB-C-to-USB-C/3.5 mm cable.
The unusual extra is the smart case: connect an audio source to it over USB-C or 3.5 mm, and the case relays that sound wirelessly to the earbuds. It is useful for wired entertainment systems or other sources that lack Bluetooth earbuds support. Jabra described the feature at launch as streaming from “any device” with one of those ports; that is the manufacturer’s marketing description, not an independent compatibility guarantee. Jabra’s June 11, 2024 announcement explains the launch feature.

The earbuds are rated IP68, while the charging case is rated IP54. Jabra says the earbuds can withstand submersion up to 1.5 metres and that the product was tested to MIL-STD-810H. These are different claims: IP ratings classify protection from dust and water ingress, while the military-standard statement refers to testing against that standard. Neither means the product is indestructible, and the case does not inherit the earbuds’ IP68 rating. See Jabra’s product information and its technical specifications.

Those protections make the earbuds a strong fit for people who expect sweat, dust or wet conditions during exercise. They do not establish how well the earbuds stay seated in a particular person’s ears during a run, nor do they replace care instructions or warranty terms. Jabra lists a two-year warranty against failure from dust and water, conditional on registering through the Jabra Sound+ app; check the terms for your region. That limited wording should not be read as coverage for every type of failure or accidental damage.
How does the smart case work?
Use the supplied cable to connect the case to a USB-C or 3.5 mm audio output. The case transmits the incoming audio to the paired earbuds using Bluetooth LE Audio. The key practical benefit is that you can use the earbuds with a wired source that otherwise could not connect to them directly. Jabra’s specifications list LC3 and low latency for the LE Audio function.

This wired-input feature is separate from Auracast. The case’s audio-input function does not by itself mean that every phone supports Auracast or LE Audio. Those newer wireless features have device and software requirements described below.

Yes, after a firmware update, but access depends on a compatible Android device. Jabra’s product-specific release notes say firmware 2.4.4 added LC3 and Auracast on May 27, 2025. The notes specify Android 15 or later, LE Audio enabled, and selected Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy models: Pixel 7/7 Pro and 8/8 Pro; Galaxy S23/S23 Ultra, S24/S24 Ultra, S25, Z Fold5 and Z Flip5. The list is specific to Jabra’s support notes, not a promise that every Android 15 phone works.

For LE Audio, Jabra instructs users to remove the existing Bluetooth pairing and pair the earbuds again. The same release notes say iOS does not support LE Audio as of that release, so iPhone owners should not expect to use these LE Audio features on the basis of the listed firmware support. Check Jabra’s current support page for current instructions and compatibility details. Its notes list firmware 2.6.0, dated January 23, 2026, as including a security update for CVE-2025-36911; version 2.5.0, dated September 17, 2025, addressed CVE-2025-20700, CVE-2025-20701 and CVE-2025-20702. Confirm the live release notes before relying on a version being current.
How long does the battery last?
Jabra’s current product listing and technical sheet rate the earbuds for up to 8 hours per charge with ANC on and up to 14 hours with ANC off. Including the case, the listed totals are up to 32 hours with ANC on and 56 hours with ANC off. These are manufacturer-rated maximums, not guaranteed listening times; volume, ANC use, codec, activity and battery condition can change actual results.

There is a discrepancy in Jabra’s published figures: its June 2024 launch announcement gave 6 hours with ANC on and 27 hours with the case, while its later/current technical specification gives the higher ratings above. The figures come from different publication dates, so they should not be combined. In its own testing, RTINGS measured nearly eight hours of continuous battery life and described three additional charges from the case; that is an independent review result, not a universal runtime guarantee. RTINGS’ review was updated June 23, 2026.

What do independent reviews say about performance?
RTINGS describes the earbuds’ audio reproduction accuracy as decent and highlights the smart case’s wired-playback utility. Its battery result is based on its own continuous-playback testing; listening conditions can differ from everyday use. These findings support the case’s practical appeal, but they do not establish that the earbuds are best for every runner or listener.

- Adaptive Noise Cancelling with Smart Ambient: Enjoy the soundtrack of your life. Four noise-sensing mics minimize distractions and maximize audio quality, while Smart Ambient keeps you fully aware of your surroundings and helps you talk with the people around you without taking out your headphones. Use the JBL Headphones app to set your custom levels.
- IP68 water and dust proof: Sweat, rain, salt water, and sand? Sounds like a great time. JBL Endurance Peak 4 earbuds carry an IP68 waterproof and dustproof rating, so they can withstand it all. Not to mention high temperatures, high humidity, or long-distance drops.
- Secure fit with TwistLock design: You might even forget you're wearing them. JBL OvalTubes with TwistLock stay in your ears all day without discomfort. The liquid silicone ear hook with memory wire is comfortable and adaptable to different sizes.
- JBL Pure Bass with Spatial Sound: Enjoy rich, clear JBL Pure Bass sound from our 10mm dynamic driver, delivering powerful stereo sound with deep bass for an immersive audio experience. Customize your sound to the way you are with Personi-fi 3.0. Take a quick earing test and adapt your audio to your personal features.
- 6 mics for perfect calls: Three mics per ear effectively capture your voice while suppressing noise from other sources. Meanwhile, the beamforming algorithm minimizes unwanted ambient noise, making your authentic voice more intelligible. The windproof design significantly reduces distortion from air friction and gives you a crystal-clear call experience—even in the middle of an outdoor run on a breezy day.
Fit and stability, ANC and HearThrough behavior, microphone performance, and control preferences are personal-use questions. The available findings here do not establish a universal outcome for those areas, so consider them when evaluating whether these earbuds meet your needs rather than assuming the rugged rating answers them.
Quick Recap
Who should consider them?
- Good match: People who want workout-focused earbuds with a high earbud ingress rating, and who may use the wired-input smart case with audio equipment.
- Check first: Anyone buying primarily for Auracast or LC3 should verify that their exact phone model, Android version and LE Audio settings meet Jabra’s support requirements.
- Know the distinction: The earbuds are IP68; the case is IP54. The dust-and-water warranty is conditional and does not promise coverage for all damage.
- Set battery expectations: Treat Jabra’s “up to” figures as ratings, and compare them with your intended ANC, volume and listening habits.
