Ivanti released fixes on March 20, 2024, for two critical vulnerabilities: CVE-2023-41724 in Standalone Sentry and CVE-2023-46808 in Neurons for ITSM. The Sentry flaw could let an unauthenticated attacker on the same physical or logical network run commands on the appliance’s underlying operating system. The ITSM flaw required an authenticated account but could let a remote user write files to sensitive directories, potentially leading to command execution in the web application’s user context.

What the two vulnerabilities allowed

Vulnerability Product Access required Potential impact CVSS score
CVE-2023-41724 Ivanti Standalone Sentry Unauthenticated, but the attacker needed access to the same physical or logical network Arbitrary commands on the appliance’s underlying operating system 9.6, as scored by CERT-EU in 2024
CVE-2023-46808 Ivanti Neurons for ITSM Authenticated remote user Write files to sensitive directories, potentially enabling command execution in the web application’s user context 9.9, as scored by CERT-EU in 2024

Both scores are in the critical range. The attack paths differ: Sentry’s issue did not require authentication but was limited by the same-network condition; the ITSM issue required authentication and involved file writes that could lead to code execution. Neither description means every exposed installation was automatically compromised.

Which versions were affected in the 2024 disclosure

CERT-EU listed supported Sentry releases 9.17.0, 9.18.0 and 9.19.0, and supported Neurons for ITSM releases 2023.1, 2023.2 and 2023.3. It also warned that older, unsupported versions were at risk. The list identifies the affected release families in that 2024 advisory; it is not a statement of the latest safe release today.

Check the exact product and installed release on each appliance or ITSM deployment, then compare it with Ivanti’s applicable security advisory. Do not assume that a version outside the supported list is safe: unsupported releases may also be affected and may not receive the same update path.

What administrators should do

  1. Inventory deployments. Locate Standalone Sentry appliances and Neurons for ITSM instances, and record their installed versions and whether each is on-premises or cloud-hosted.
  2. Check the applicable Ivanti advisory. Match the product and release branch to the vendor’s remediation guidance; apply the relevant update rather than relying on a generic security product or network change as a substitute.
  3. Coordinate operational response. British Columbia’s government advisory advises teams to investigate, notify business owners, take mitigating actions as needed, and apply the software update.
  4. Review for signs of compromise. The 2024 advisories reported no evidence of exploitation at the time, but that does not establish the status of any individual environment. Follow organizational incident-response procedures if suspicious activity is found.

For the 2024 fixes, Ireland’s National Cyber Security Centre said patches were available for supported versions and that fixes had already been applied to Ivanti cloud systems. Its advice was: “The NCSC strongly advises affected organisations identify and update affected Ivanti on-premise systems to the latest version.” Cloud customers should confirm service status and applicable updates with Ivanti rather than applying on-premises instructions to a hosted service.

Why a current version check still matters

The 2024 CVEs are not the end of Ivanti’s patch history. In an update dated September 8, 2026, Ivanti disclosed additional vulnerabilities in Neurons for ITSM and Sentry and said it had no evidence those vulnerabilities were being exploited in the wild. A same-day Canadian Cyber Centre advisory lists affected Sentry releases earlier than R10.6.4, R10.7.3 and R10.8.2, depending on branch, and gives separate patched-release thresholds for Neurons for ITSM cloud and on-premises deployments.

Those 2026 thresholds concern different vulnerabilities and must not be substituted for the remediation guidance for CVE-2023-41724 or CVE-2023-46808. Administrators should compare their installed release with the latest Ivanti advisory for their product and deployment type. CERT-EU’s 2024 advisory recommended upgrading affected software as soon as possible.
