Ivanti says attackers have exploited two critical code-injection flaws in Endpoint Manager Mobile (EPMM): CVE-2026-1281 and CVE-2026-1340. Both can allow unauthenticated remote code execution on vulnerable appliances, and each has a CVSS score of 9.8. Administrators should check their EPMM version branch, apply the matching Ivanti remediation, and separately assess whether an attacker accessed the appliance.

What is happening with Ivanti EPMM?

EPMM is Ivanti’s enterprise platform for managing mobile, macOS, and Windows devices. The two reported vulnerabilities are code-injection flaws that can let a remote attacker execute code without authenticating to a vulnerable EPMM appliance. CERT-EU assigns CVSS 9.8 to each vulnerability. CERT-EU’s advisory describes the affected versions and severity.

These are reported exploitation cases, not merely theoretical risks. Ivanti said both vulnerabilities had been exploited in the wild. CISA added CVE-2026-1281 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on January 29, 2026, and CVE-2026-1340 on April 8, 2026, according to the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security.

Which EPMM versions are affected?

The advisories identify affected EPMM releases across several branches. CERT-EU lists 12.5.1.0 and prior, 12.6.1.0 and prior, and 12.7.0.0 and prior. NHS England’s alert also names the 12.5.0.0 and 12.6.0.0 branches, alongside 12.5.1.0, 12.6.1.0, and 12.7.0.0. Consult NHS England Digital’s alert and Ivanti’s current advisory to confirm the precise applicability and fix for your installed branch.

Do not assume that a planned release mentioned in an older advisory is the current fix. CERT-EU’s January 2026 notice described a permanent correction in version 12.8.0.0 as planned for Q1 2026; that was a forecast, not confirmation of the current remediation. Follow Ivanti’s latest branch-specific guidance for the applicable RPM or fixed release.

What should administrators do?

1. Identify the installed branch and apply its matching remediation

Inventory the EPMM version and branch, then obtain the RPM and installation directions from Ivanti’s live advisory for that branch. NHS England says to apply a branch-matched RPM. Its alert also warns that the RPM script does not persist across a version upgrade, so administrators must reapply it after upgrading. Confirm the appropriate sequence and current instructions with Ivanti before making changes.

2. Treat patching and compromise assessment as separate work

Installing the fix reduces exposure going forward; it does not establish whether the appliance was accessed before remediation. NHS England recommends reviewing Apache access logs and advises using SIEM or other centralized log data where available: an attacker with access to the appliance may manipulate logs stored locally. Follow Ivanti’s current analysis guidance for exact indicators and investigation steps.

3. Escalate suspicious findings

If logs or other evidence suggest exploitation, involve your security operations or incident-response team and contact Ivanti Support as appropriate. Preserve relevant centralized records and investigate under your organization’s incident-response procedures rather than relying on a patched appliance’s local records alone.

What has been observed in attacks?

Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 reported attempts involving reverse shells, web shells, reconnaissance, malware downloads, and attempts to establish persistence. These are observations from Unit 42’s telemetry, not a claim that every compromised organization experienced each technique. Unit 42 also reported activity affecting organizations in the United States, Germany, Australia, and Canada, across sectors including government, healthcare, manufacturing, professional and legal services, and high technology. Its monitoring of this brief ended March 24, 2026, so those details are historical rather than a live threat feed. See Unit 42’s analysis.

Unit 42 counted more than 4,400 EPMM instances in its telemetry in 2026; that is a vendor observation, not a global installation census or a count of confirmed victims. CRN reported Ivanti’s disclosure-period characterization that a “very limited” number of customers had been exploited at that time, while Unit 42 later characterized the exploitation it observed as widespread. Those statements describe different scopes and dates, and neither establishes a verified total number of compromised organizations. CRN also reproduced CISA’s warning that this type of vulnerability is a frequent attack vector and poses significant risks to the federal enterprise.
