Bitcoin Magazine’s October 5, 2026 interview listing attributes a striking claim to iTrustCapital CEO Kevin Maloney: about 50% of the platform’s clients are buying Bitcoin. That is a report about activity at one platform, not an independently verified statistic or evidence that half of retirement investors—or Bitcoin investors generally—are buying.
What the interview listing reports
Bitcoin Magazine’s listing says Maloney reported that about $1 billion was put to work on iTrustCapital’s platform “last quarter,” including a couple hundred million dollars from clients’ cash positions. It also says the platform had more than 100,000 clients and frames the interview around his claim that about 50% are buying Bitcoin. Bitcoin Magazine’s October 5, 2026 interview listing does not define “put to work,” give a precise amount for the cash component, or explain how the client count was calculated.
“Last quarter” is the listing’s wording. It does not give exact start and end dates, so the phrase should not be converted into a specific calendar quarter. The figures are attributed to Maloney as summarized by the publication; the listing does not provide platform records or an independent audit.

What “50% of clients are buying Bitcoin” does—and does not—mean
The listing does not specify what counts as “buying,” whether the figure measures current holdings, purchases during a particular period, or another activity, or when the share was measured. It therefore supports only the qualified statement that Maloney reportedly described about half of iTrustCapital’s clients as buying Bitcoin. It does not establish a market-wide demand measure, a trend among retirement investors, or a change over time.
#1 Best Overall
- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
The description also characterizes Maloney as not seeing clients “chasing candles.” That phrase is presented as a short characterization, not a complete, independently verifiable quotation. It should not be taken as proof of how clients make decisions or as a forecast of Bitcoin prices.
The $1.3 billion in the headline is not defined
The accessible interview description does not explain the title’s $1.3 billion figure. It does not identify it as assets under management, valuation, client assets, or any other specific measure. The separate report of about $1 billion put to work last quarter does not, by itself, explain or verify the $1.3 billion figure.

Retirement allocations are a discussion point, not a benchmark
The listing’s chapter summary mentions a 5–15% retirement-investor allocation range in the interview discussion. It does not cite a separate dataset or study supporting that range as typical, recommended, or appropriate for retirement investors generally. Treat it as a topic raised in the interview, not a general allocation rule.
How to read the claims
- Source: Bitcoin Magazine’s October 5, 2026 interview listing and description, which attributes the figures to Maloney.
- Scope: The claims concern iTrustCapital clients, not the broader Bitcoin market.
- Definitions: The description does not define “buying,” “put to work,” or the client-count method.
- Verification: The listing does not supply underlying platform data or independent validation.
- Headline figure: The $1.3 billion amount is unexplained in the accessible description.
Read narrowly, the interview listing offers a snapshot of client behavior as the company’s CEO described it. It cannot show from the available details whether buying was sustained, how much each client bought, or whether the reported activity reflects investors beyond this platform.
