Toronto resident Jasmine Ault says Meta disabled her Facebook and Instagram accounts, cutting off access to photos, posts, memories and business contacts she had built up over many years. She says her appeal was closed within minutes and that the support available to her led to an AI chatbot, not a human. The reports do not establish why Meta disabled the accounts or whether her data was permanently deleted.
What happened to Jasmine Ault’s Facebook and Instagram accounts?
TechRadar reported on October 1, 2026, that Ault woke to notices saying her Facebook and Instagram accounts had been disabled. She told CBC News that her Facebook account dated to 2006 and described the accounts as holding two decades of photos, posts, personal memories, contacts and business connections. These are Ault’s descriptions as reported by the outlets, not an independent audit of the accounts or their contents. TechRadar’s report
According to TechRadar, the notice said the Facebook account did not follow Meta’s rules but did not identify the rule or the conduct at issue. Ault believed the account may have been hacked, but the reporting does not confirm that. It also mentions automated moderation only as a possible explanation in general; it does not establish that an AI system caused this particular disablement.

Ault said she appealed and received a response within minutes that her case was closed and could not be appealed again through that route. She also described the support interactions available to her as AI-chatbot conversations that did not connect her with a human. TechRadar reported that she told CBC she had stayed awake for 26 hours while trying to restore access. That is her account of the experience, not a general measure of how Meta appeals work. A secondary reproduction of CBC’s reporting says Ault bought Meta Verified Standard because she thought it might improve support access, but still encountered an AI chatbot. That account also lists monthly prices of US$14.99 for Standard, US$150 for Premium and US$500 for Max, and says the higher tiers mentioned the ability to request an agent call. Those are time-sensitive figures from the secondary reproduction, not verified current Meta pricing or a guarantee of support access. TechRadar’s report
TechRadar reproduces Ault’s description of losing access as “like I’ve lost everything in a metaphorical fire with my digital albums and my digital memories.” Her words convey the stakes of losing access to an account, but the reporting does not establish that the underlying files were permanently erased rather than made inaccessible.

TechRadar’s practical advice is to download Facebook and Instagram data in advance. Because the current procedure could not be verified here, consult each platform’s current help information for its export controls and available data. Do not assume you will be able to request an export after an account is disabled, or that an export will restore access to the account.

Keep any downloaded archive somewhere independent of the social account. An external hard drive or other portable storage can hold exported files, but check its capacity and compatibility with the computer you use to download and open them. If the files matter, keep a second copy in a separate location. Storage can preserve an archive you already have; it cannot retrieve data from an account you can no longer access.

Ault says the support route available to her did not connect her to a human, even after she bought a Meta Verified plan. Her experience does not establish that every account, region or support tier gets the same options. The reporting does not verify current plan benefits or guarantee that paying for a tier will resolve a disabled-account appeal.
