Israeli airlines announced special one-way flights to bring stranded Israeli passengers back from Dubai after FlyDubai suspended service to Israel following an incident aboard Flight FZ1073. The plan changed quickly: El Al canceled its initial flights after landing permits were revoked, while Arkia and Israir reported different stages of approval. By October 3, 2026, Anadolu Agency reported that an Arkia flight had departed Dubai with Israeli passengers. Schedules, seats, eligibility and fares are time-sensitive; check directly with your airline before traveling to the airport.
Did the repatriation flights take off?
Not all flights in the original plan operated as announced. On October 2, The Times of Israel reported that El Al canceled two planned Friday flights after landing permits were revoked. Arkia said it had received the necessary approvals and intended to operate, while Israir said it had Dubai airport approval but was waiting for further confirmation. Anadolu Agency reported on October 3 that an Arkia flight had departed Dubai carrying stranded Israeli passengers.
The Times of Israel also reported an Arkia departure on the evening of October 2. Because the reports use different date labels, the departure is best described as having been reported by October 3; the exact local departure date and time should not be inferred without a flight record. An airline’s announcement, an approval, a scheduled flight and a completed departure are distinct statuses.
What flights were announced, and who were they for?
On October 1, El Al, Arkia and Israir announced special one-way repatriation operations. The aircraft were to fly from Tel Aviv to Dubai without passengers, then return with Israelis who had been booked on FlyDubai or on Emirates itineraries connecting through FlyDubai. The announcements followed FlyDubai’s suspension of service to Israel after the September 30 incident aboard FZ1073.

The October 1 report gave these indicative fares and details. They are historical announced prices, not current quotes or confirmation that seats remain available.
| Carrier | Announced fare | Reported detail |
|---|---|---|
| El Al | $249 | Included one carry-on item |
| Arkia | $279 | No baggage detail stated in the October 1 report |
| Israir | $299 | No baggage detail stated in the October 1 report |
For people weighing alternatives, the key practical questions are whether the specific flight has final operating approval and has actually departed, whether seats are available, what baggage is included, and whether the passenger’s original booking qualifies. Confirm each point with the carrier; the initial announcements do not establish current availability or terms.

What if your ticket was on an Emirates itinerary with a FlyDubai connection?
The initial report said some travelers on Emirates itineraries that connected through Dubai on FlyDubai were also affected. It noted that some passengers might be able to seek rebooking through other European or regional hubs, but that does not establish a universal entitlement or guarantee a particular route. Contact the airline responsible for your ticket and ask about rebooking, refund eligibility, and any alternative routing for your specific itinerary. Do not assume that eligibility for a special repatriation flight or a free rebooking applies automatically.
What happened aboard FlyDubai Flight FZ1073?
On September 30, FlyDubai Flight FZ1073 was traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when a cockpit incident prompted an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. The Associated Press reported that 182 people were aboard and that the UAE was leading the investigation. AP said the UAE characterized the co-pilot’s act as a terrorist attack. Israeli public statements also described the incident as an attempted terror attack; those are attributed assessments, not independently established investigative findings.

In an October 2 statement, the Embassy of Israel in Australia said: “The Embassy of Israel in Australia is relieved that all passengers and crew aboard FlyDubai Flight 1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv are safe, including Jewish Australians.” The investigation was ongoing in the latest reporting cited here, so responsibility and motive should remain attributed to the relevant authorities.
Quick Recap
What should stranded travelers do now?
- Contact the airline that issued your ticket. Ask whether your booking qualifies for a repatriation flight or rebooking, and request the current written terms for refunds or alternative routing.
- Verify the flight’s status directly with the operating carrier. Ask whether it is approved, scheduled, and operating, and confirm departure details and seat availability. Earlier announcements changed as landing permissions and confirmations evolved.
- Confirm the fare and baggage rules before paying. The fares reported on October 1 were announced prices at that time, not current offers. Ask what is included and whether any additional conditions apply.
- Follow the carrier’s instructions for check-in and airport arrival. Do not travel based solely on an earlier schedule or a report that a flight was planned.
