An Israeli air attack struck an apartment in the al-Asala building in Gaza City’s Remal neighbourhood, killing at least five people and severely wounding at least six, according to medical staff at al-Shifa Hospital as reported by Al Jazeera on October 3, 2026. Civil Defence crews were still searching the site when the report was published, so the toll was preliminary.
What happened in the reported strike
Al Jazeera reported that the attack hit an apartment in the multi-storey al-Asala building in the Remal neighbourhood of western Gaza City early Saturday, October 3. The report said residents were asleep and that there had been no prior warning. Those details were attributed to Al Jazeera’s account and correspondent Hani al-Shaer; the source did not independently verify the timing or warning account.
Al-Shaer, reporting from Khan Younis, said: “We heard fighter jets getting louder, then three strikes followed, hitting the apartment and killing those inside.” Al Jazeera reported that the strike penetrated the targeted apartment and damaged floors below it. Fires reportedly burned for at least an hour before Palestinian Civil Defence crews extinguished them.
