The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is the ferry operator to check for current sailings: its route information lists Heysham, Liverpool, Larne and Dublin. Belfast is no longer a current Steam Packet route; the company says service ended in December 2025, with a year-round Douglas–Larne sailing introduced in April 2026. Flying is another option, with direct services to destinations including Liverpool, Manchester, London and Dublin. The right choice depends on your travel date, departure and arrival access, vehicle needs, availability and total trip cost.
Which ferry routes serve the Isle of Man?
The Steam Packet’s Ferry Routes & Times page is the place to check current routes and the timetable for your intended date. Its route information lists connections with Great Britain and Ireland, but a route listing alone does not establish that a sailing runs every day.
- Heysham: Listed as an Isle of Man ferry connection. Check the live timetable for the day you plan to travel.
- Liverpool: Listed as a ferry connection and also a destination served by direct flights, so it may be useful to compare sea and air travel if the arrival point suits your onward journey.
- Larne: The operator says the Douglas–Larne sailing was introduced in April 2026 and runs year-round. Check the operator’s current timetable for dates and availability.
- Dublin: Listed as a ferry route, but service dates and frequency should be verified for your itinerary rather than assumed from the route listing.
Is there still a ferry from Belfast?
No current Belfast sailing is listed by the operator: Steam Packet says service to and from Belfast ceased in December 2025. For a Northern Ireland ferry connection, its current route information points to Larne instead. Check the live timetable before making plans.

Are there other scheduled ferry operators?
The available route information identifies Steam Packet for the Isle of Man routes covered here; it does not establish a competing scheduled passenger-ferry operator on these routes. For current service, vehicle space, disruption notices and booking details, use the operator’s route and booking information.

When is flying a practical alternative?
Isle of Man Airport’s routes and airlines listing names direct services including Liverpool, Manchester, London and Dublin. It identifies Loganair, easyJet and Emerald Airlines on relevant routes and marks services as year-round or seasonal. The carrier and whether a flight is available depend on the destination and travel date.
A flight may suit you if you are travelling without a vehicle or the airport and onward connections work better for your itinerary. A ferry may suit you better if you need to take a car, motorcycle or another vehicle, subject to vehicle availability and price. The available information does not provide a like-for-like comparison of fares or door-to-door journey times, so compare the full itineraries for your dates.

London flights from 25 October 2026
In an announcement published on 29 September 2026, Isle of Man Airport said Loganair was scheduled to operate 11 return services per week between the Isle of Man and London Heathrow from 25 October 2026. The announced service comprises weekday morning and evening flights and a Sunday evening flight; London City service was scheduled to cease. This is a dated winter 2026 schedule announcement, not a guarantee of availability on a particular day. Check the airline timetable for your trip. See the airport’s London and connections announcement for the published details.

- Match the departure point to your trip. Compare how practical it is to reach the ferry port or airport from where you will start, and how well the arrival point serves your final destination.
- Check your exact date. Confirm that the route operates on your travel day and that passenger places are available. For a ferry, verify vehicle space too if you need it.
- Decide whether you need a vehicle. If you plan to bring a car or motorcycle, check ferry vehicle availability and its fare. If you can travel without one, include the onward ground transport you will need after landing or arriving by sea.
- Compare the whole journey. Include access to the port or airport, connections and onward travel. The available sources do not establish consistent transfer times or door-to-door durations across the options.
- Compare total costs for the same dates. Check live fares and any relevant vehicle or onward-connection costs. No date-matched ferry-versus-flight fare comparison is established here.
Check Dublin sailings and same-day returns by date
Whether a Dublin ferry runs on your travel date, and whether a same-day return is possible, depends on the operator’s timetable for that specific date. The general route listing does not establish a universal sailing frequency or same-day itinerary. Check the Steam Packet timetable and booking information for the dates you want to travel.
