Isaac Heeney won the Sydney Swans’ 2026 Bob Skilton Medal, the club’s champion award, for a third consecutive year. He was absent from the October 1 awards ceremony after a club suspension, but told teammates in a video message that he “can’t wait to get back to training” together next season.
Heeney tops the 2026 Bob Skilton Medal count
Heeney scored 431 points over 20 matches to win the Bob Skilton Medal, the Swans’ formal club champion award. Brodie Grundy finished second with 400 points, and Charlie Curnow was third with 398. The coaching panel determines the medal count, according to the Sydney Swans’ awards report.
The Swans held their AFL Awards at Sydney Town Hall on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The AFL’s results report listed the top ten as follows:

Heeney’s 431-point total was 31 ahead of Grundy and 33 ahead of Curnow. The Swans report says he averaged 29 disposals and six clearances across his 20 games. AFL.com.au reported different season averages—26.9 disposals and 6.2 clearances per game—and the available reports do not explain the statistical-method difference, so the figures should not be combined.

A third consecutive medal, following wins in 2024 and 2025
The 2026 result extends Heeney’s run to three straight Bob Skilton Medals. AFL.com.au identifies his first win as 2024 and says he retained the award in 2025 before winning again in 2026; the club’s historical winners list also records the 2024 and 2025 victories.
Why Heeney missed the awards ceremony
Heeney was one of five Swans players suspended after round 23 for breaching club behavioural standards. Nick Blakey, Riley Bice, James Jordon and Chad Warner were also suspended, and the players did not attend awards night, according to ABC News and AFL.com.au.

ABC reported that the club sanction followed late-night partying at the Pullman Hotel in East Melbourne after the August 16 match. The outlet separately reported a police investigation into an allegation of sexual assault on the same night; as of its October 1–2 report, no charges had been laid. ABC expressly said it was not suggesting wrongdoing by the suspended players. The club suspension and the separate police investigation are not findings of criminal guilt.
Why Heeney remained eligible to win
The Swans did not remove Heeney’s votes after the suspension. Club chair Andrew Pridham told ABC that votes had been cast during the season and that retrospectively removing them would not be appropriate. He said the medals recognize “on-field performance across the season” and that eligibility was not an endorsement of the players’ conduct. AFL.com.au reported his explanation that “Their eligibility in tonight’s count is not an endorsement of what happened.”

What Heeney said about returning next season
In a video message to the awards night, Heeney apologized to his teammates and club colleagues. He described each day away from the club as “heartbreaking,” saying he knew he could not contribute.
He also looked ahead to training with the group: “I’m incredibly excited about what this group can do. I can’t wait to get back to training with the boys, get better, and tackle next year together,” he said in remarks reported by AFL.com.au.

That was Heeney’s stated hope to return to training together; it was not confirmation of medical clearance or a specific return date.
