Sometimes. YouTube TV is still worth the money for households that regularly watch its live channels, sports and recordings—especially when several people share the account. At $82.99 per month for the main plan, it is harder to justify if you use only a small part of its lineup. Start by checking the channels and events your household actually watches, then compare the regular price of a fitting plan with alternatives.
How much does YouTube TV cost in 2026?
YouTube TV lists its main plan at $82.99 per month for more than 100 networks. As of October 3, 2026, its official purchase page advertises eligible new users a rate of $59.99 per month for two months, followed by $82.99 per month. The offer is advertised as ending November 16, 2026, subject to its terms and eligibility. Treat that as a temporary discount, not the ongoing cost. Check YouTube TV’s current offer and terms before subscribing.
YouTube announced genre plans on February 9, 2026. The following are the regular monthly prices in that announcement; introductory offers apply only to eligible new users for the stated period. Confirm the plans and prices shown to you before switching or signing up. YouTube’s genre-plan announcement has the published details.
| Plan | Regular monthly price | Published introductory offer |
|---|---|---|
| Sports | $64.99 | $54.99 per month for the first year for new users |
| Sports + News | $71.99 | $56.99 per month for the first three months for new users |
| Entertainment | $54.99 | $44.99 per month for the first three months for new users |
| News + Entertainment + Family | $69.99 | $59.99 per month for the first three months for new users |
| Main plan | $82.99 | The current purchase-page offer is $59.99 per month for two months for eligible new users, then $82.99 per month |
Prices and promotional eligibility can change. Compare the recurring amount after any introductory period, and include add-ons such as NFL Sunday Ticket or 4K Plus only if you need them.

What does the subscription include?
YouTube describes the service as live TV from more than 100 broadcast, cable and regional sports networks. Its overview lists major broadcast networks, sports, popular cable and premium networks, unlimited DVR and up to six accounts under one plan. A plan supports up to three devices streaming at the same time. See YouTube TV’s service overview for its current lineup and terms.
Recordings and extra streams
YouTube says DVR recordings are kept for nine months. The optional 4K Plus add-on provides select 4K content, offline viewing of eligible recordings and unlimited streams at home for an additional monthly charge. The overview does not establish that every program is available in 4K or for offline viewing, so check individual content and add-on terms before paying extra. YouTube TV’s DVR and 4K Plus help page explains the features.

When is YouTube TV worth paying for?
It fits a household that uses the breadth
The main plan makes more sense when multiple people watch different live networks, use recordings and need simultaneous streams. Up to six account members can personalize the service, while up to three devices can stream at once. Those limits are distinct: six accounts do not mean six simultaneous streams.

A genre plan may be enough
The newer Sports, Entertainment and combined plans may reduce the regular bill if their channel selections cover your household’s actual needs. The launch announcement says genre plans retain features including unlimited DVR, up to six account members, Key Plays and Multiview. But a lower-priced plan is only a saving if it includes the channels and live events you want; inspect its lineup rather than assuming it is a smaller version of the main plan.
It is poor value if you rarely watch live TV
If you mainly use on-demand services or watch only a few broadcast stations, paying for a broad live-channel package may be unnecessary. A smaller genre plan, a different live-TV provider or an over-the-air antenna for local broadcasts may better match that viewing pattern.

Does YouTube TV include the NFL games you want?
The main and Sports plans carry local and national NFL broadcasts, including games shown in your area on CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN and NFL Network. That does not mean every NFL game is included.
NFL Sunday Ticket adds out-of-market Sunday afternoon regular-season games shown on CBS and FOX. It does not include local games, national broadcasts such as Sunday Night Football or Monday Night Football, or postseason games. Sunday Ticket can be purchased with YouTube TV or as a standalone YouTube Primetime Channel. Check the current season’s price and coverage before adding it to a yearly cost comparison. YouTube’s NFL Sunday Ticket page describes the coverage.

YouTube describes the Sports Plan as including sports channels from the main plan plus local channels. That is not a promise that every sporting event is available: rights, channel and local-market coverage matter. Confirm the specific game or league you follow before choosing a plan.

| Option | May fit if… | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Sling TV | Your channel needs fit its configurable packages, or you want to combine a package with local reception from an antenna. | Sling says local channels on Blue and Orange & Blue depend on location; Orange has no local channels. Its stated DVR allowance is 50 hours, with a $5-per-month unlimited-storage upgrade. An antenna can provide local broadcast stations where reception permits, but it does not replace paid cable networks, YouTube TV’s DVR or out-of-market sports. Sling’s local-channel information and DVR details describe these terms. |
| Hulu + Live TV | You value a combined Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN offering alongside live channels. | As of October 3, 2026, its official page advertises eligible users $49.99 for one month, then $99.99 per month or the then-current regular rate; the offer is advertised to end October 26, 2026. The page lists more than 100 live channels and unlimited DVR recordings kept for up to nine months. Live-TV and video-on-demand programming in the plan includes ads. Compare the ongoing price and the libraries your household uses. Hulu’s current offer and DVR information provide details. |
| DIRECTV streaming | You need a particular regional sports network or are considering a genre package. | DIRECTV’s own comparison page claims broader regional sports network coverage, but availability varies by market and package. Verify the specific network by ZIP code and compare total price and terms; the claim is provider marketing, not an independent comparison. DIRECTV’s comparison page has its lineup information. |
| Over-the-air antenna | You mainly want local broadcast stations and can receive them at your address. | Reception depends on location and does not provide cable networks, a full live-TV service DVR or out-of-market sports. |
Check these details before changing plans
Plan availability and switching options can depend on who bills you. If your subscription is billed through a mobile carrier, internet provider or Google Play, YouTube says you may need to manage the change through that provider. Its help page also says plan switching is unavailable in the iOS and Android apps. YouTube TV’s plan and billing help page explains the rules.
Quick Recap
- Changing to a plan without a channel can remove DVR recordings associated with that channel. YouTube says those recordings may return if you upgrade again within 21 days.
- Switching plans during a promotion forfeits the promotional price, according to YouTube’s help page.
A practical way to decide
- Write down must-have live channels and specific events. Check each plan’s lineup and local availability, not just its name or advertised category.
- Calculate the ongoing monthly total. Use the rate after promotions and add only the extras you need, such as NFL Sunday Ticket or 4K Plus.
- Match the plan to how the household watches. Consider the number of viewers, three-device simultaneous-stream limit, account sharing and nine-month DVR retention.
- Check whether local broadcasts can be handled another way. If local stations are your main need, see whether an antenna receives them at your address; it is not a replacement for a full live-TV lineup.
- Compare the alternatives on the same basis. Check channel fit, local and regional sports availability, DVR, simultaneous streams, bundled libraries and the post-promotion total.
