Yes. Wemo is a Belkin brand and product line. Belkin has described WeMo as one of its own brands, and the available record does not describe Wemo as a separate company that Belkin later bought. The question most current owners need answered, though, is what changed on January 31, 2026, when Belkin ended cloud services and app support for select Wemo products.
Wemo is a Belkin brand
The clearest evidence comes from Belkin’s own statements. In written testimony submitted to a 2015 US Senate hearing, Belkin wrote: “When consumers see a Belkin product, or a Linksys product, or a WeMo product, they know that it is a product they can trust, and one that carries a rich heritage of commitment to quality and excellence.” The testimony presents WeMo as one of the brands in Belkin’s portfolio. Because the sentence comes from a submitted statement, it should be attributed to Belkin as the submitting company rather than to an individual speaker.
A January 2012 announcement from Kwikset, a separate company, also described WeMo as Belkin’s newly launched system. Together, the two sources place Wemo inside Belkin from the line’s launch and continuing through 2015.
Brand ownership is not the same as an acquisition
Ownership of a brand and the purchase of a standalone company are different claims. Belkin’s statements and the 2012 announcement establish that Wemo is Belkin’s brand. They do not describe Belkin buying an independent Wemo company, and no acquisition record was found. If you see a claim that Belkin acquired Wemo, treat it as unverified unless it cites a specific transaction.

The available evidence also does not describe Wemo’s internal corporate structure, such as which legal entity holds the trademarks or which subsidiary runs the product line. Answering those questions would require corporate registry or filing records, which are outside what Belkin’s public materials show.
What Belkin changed in 2026
Belkin’s support notice, last updated in January 2026, states: “After careful consideration, Belkin has made the decision to discontinue Wemo cloud services and app support for select Wemo products effective January 31, 2026.” The change applies to select products, not to the entire Wemo line.

- New setup, or reconfiguration, through either the Wemo app or Apple HomeKit after the cutoff
Products that were already configured with Apple HomeKit before January 31, 2026 may keep working locally in Apple Home. This is the main exception, and it depends on the device being on the named list and on the HomeKit setup having been completed before the cutoff.

Which devices are affected
Belkin identifies Wemo products by model number, not by product name, so check the model number on your device or its packaging against the table below. Belkin’s notice names the following models as ones that may continue through HomeKit if they were configured before the cutoff. It separately identifies four Thread-based models as not affected by the cloud shutdown and continuing through HomeKit.

“Not stated” means Belkin’s notice does not make that Thread-based claim for the model. It does not mean the device is affected or unaffected by the shutdown. Devices outside this table are not named in the notice, and the notice does not say they are safe to keep using. Do not assume that a Wemo device is unaffected because it is not listed, and do not assume that a listed device can still be set up as new.

Refunds and disposal
Belkin says a product still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 may be eligible for a refund, and that a refund requires proof of purchase. Eligibility is not guaranteed, so check Belkin’s official notice for the current process before you expect a refund.
For a device that no longer works, Belkin recommends authorized e-waste recycling when the device is not HomeKit-compatible or is out of warranty. Wemo devices contain electronics, so avoid placing them in household trash.

What to do if you still own a Wemo device
- Find the model number on the device or packaging and check it against Belkin’s notice.
- If the model is not on the list, expect the Wemo app and remote control to stop working. Plan for replacement or recycling.
- If the model is on the HomeKit list and was set up in Apple Home before January 31, 2026, test local control in Apple Home now.
- If the model is out of warranty or no longer works, use an authorized e-waste recycler.
- If you are still in warranty, keep your proof of purchase and read Belkin’s refund terms.
The Wemo WiFi Smart Plug WSP080 is a real named Wemo product, and Belkin’s notice lists it. It should be treated as a legacy example only. Its functionality after the cutoff depends on prior HomeKit configuration, and this article does not verify current retail availability. Do not buy a Wemo device for a new setup on the assumption that it will work with the Wemo app or new HomeKit pairing. Replacement compatibility should be checked against the platform you use before you buy, because a different plug is not automatically compatible with an existing Wemo setup.
Belkin’s support notice remains the authority on device status. Its list of named products and conditions governs, and claims beyond that list should not be made.
