TSMC did not announce a Nvidia-only price increase when its new chairman, C.C. Wei, raised the possibility in June 2024. Wei said TSMC wanted customers to share higher costs and that discussions had begun; Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang publicly supported TSMC charging more. Neither comment established that Nvidia agreed to a higher rate. A separate Reuters report in July 2026 described possible TSMC increases of up to 10% from 2027, but those figures came from unnamed sources and were not confirmed by TSMC.

What did TSMC’s chairman say about Nvidia?

In June 2024, shortly after becoming TSMC chairman, C.C. Wei said Nvidia’s products were valuable but that he wanted to show Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang the value TSMC provides. TechSpot reported Wei saying, “I think those products are really valuable for sure, but I am thinking about showing [him] our value as well.”

Wei also said, “We expect our customers to share some of the higher cost with us, and we already started our discussion with our customers.” The remarks indicated that TSMC was discussing costs with customers; they were not an announcement of a specific Nvidia price change. TechSpot’s June 10, 2024 report also quoted TSMC describing its pricing approach as “strategy-oriented rather than opportunity-oriented.”

Did Nvidia agree to pay more?

The cited 2024 report does not establish that Nvidia accepted a higher price, disclose what Nvidia pays TSMC, or give a proposed Nvidia-specific increase. Huang endorsed the principle of TSMC charging in line with its contribution. TechSpot reported him saying, “TSMC’s contribution to the world and the tech industry is under-represented by its financial results.” That was Huang’s public view, not evidence of an agreement or a changed contract rate.

How does the 2026 price-hike report differ?

In July 2026, Reuters reported a separate, broader plan: two unnamed sources said TSMC intended to raise prices by up to 10% starting in 2027. The sources described changes that would vary by customer and product. Reuters said negotiations began in June and concluded in July. TSMC did not confirm the figures, and the report did not identify a confirmed Nvidia rate. A TSMC spokesperson told Reuters, “Our pricing strategy is strategic, not opportunistic. We will continue to work closely with customers and sell our value to them.” Reuters’ July 2026 report said TSMC declined to comment on pricing.

Wei said TSMC wanted customers to share higher costs and referred to showing Nvidia TSMC’s value. June 2024; remarks included Nvidia, alongside broader customer discussions. Public executive remarks reported by TechSpot. No Nvidia-specific rate or agreement was announced.
TSMC planned increases of up to 10% from 2027. Reported July 2026; customer- and product-dependent. Reuters attributed the figures to two unnamed sources. TSMC did not confirm them; the report did not establish Nvidia’s rate.

Why is TSMC discussing higher prices?

Demand for AI chips and the cost of manufacturing provide context for the pricing discussion, but neither reveals the terms of Nvidia’s contracts. In July 2026, Quartz reported that Wei described AI demand as high and said it would be a long time before TSMC could meet customer demand. It also reported that Wei wanted higher prices while distinguishing TSMC’s approach from abrupt increases in the memory sector. Quartz’s report provides that demand context.

Separately, The Next Web reported in June 2026 that TSMC CFO Wendell Huang told the BBC inflation had raised costs and that TSMC reflects its value. That is further context for TSMC’s broader pricing position, not disclosure of Nvidia’s contract terms. The Next Web’s report does not state a Nvidia-specific change.

Could this make Nvidia GPUs more expensive?

The cited reporting does not establish a direct retail price effect. Even if a supplier charges a customer more, the reporting here does not show whether or how that change would affect Nvidia’s costs, product pricing, or prices paid for consumer graphics cards. It therefore supports no definite prediction about GPU prices.
