The headline’s 44% discount is not verified as a current deal: it does not identify a drive, capacity, retailer listing, or sale year. Historical coverage confirms that Western Digital external drives have appeared in Prime Day promotions, but it does not establish a live offer today. The closest specific example in the available coverage was a 14TB WD Elements external hard drive reported at about 39% off in October 2025—not 44%.
Is a Western Digital drive currently 44% off for Prime Day?
There is not enough information to confirm that claim. The headline does not name the model or capacity, and the available reports describe past promotions rather than a current listing. A stock-market page repeated the headline but supplied no underlying product or offer details, so it does not independently verify the discount.
Before treating any percentage as current, check the retailer’s live product page for the exact model, price, stated comparison price, Prime eligibility, and offer end time. The reports available here do not establish any of those details for a present-day offer.
What past Western Digital Prime Day deals were reported?
WD Elements 14TB HDD: October 2025
PCWorld reported on October 8, 2025, that Amazon offered a WD Elements 14TB external hard drive for $169.99, compared with a stated regular price of $279.99, during the October 7–8, 2025 Prime Big Deal Days event. That price difference is approximately 39%, not 44%. The report describes USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports but does not give an exact model number. This is historical pricing, not evidence of a current offer. PCWorld’s October 2025 deal report (drive details)

“Up to 44%” across multiple drives: July 2022
A Laptop Mag roundup published in July 2022 used “up to 44%” to describe a group of Western Digital external-drive offers. The roundup included an Elements SE 2TB external SSD, an Elements 16TB external HDD, a WD_Black P10 5TB drive, and a My Passport for Mac 5TB drive. That percentage applied to a historical collection of offers; it does not show that one unnamed drive in the current headline is 44% off. Laptop Mag’s July 2022 roundup
How to decide whether a WD external drive suits your needs
The historical examples span different drive types and capacities, so the product name alone is not enough to judge whether a deal fits. Compare the actual listing against what you need to store and how you plan to use the drive.

- Capacity: Choose enough space for your backups, games, or media library, with room for future additions.
- Desktop or portable: Confirm the drive’s form factor and power requirements in the listing; the historical examples include products in different external-drive categories.
- HDD or SSD: The past roundups include both external hard drives and an external SSD. Those examples do not establish current performance or value, so compare the specifications and price of the exact products you are considering.
- Connection and compatibility: Check the listed interface and confirm that it works with your computer, console, or other intended device. The 14TB example’s report mentions USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, but does not establish the exact model.
- Intended use and price: Match the drive to your backup, media, or gaming needs, then compare the live price with the same model’s current listing—not a past promotion for a different capacity or product.
What to verify before relying on a discount claim
- Identify the exact Western Digital model and capacity in the product listing.
- Check the live price and the retailer’s stated comparison price; calculate the percentage from those figures rather than relying on a headline.
- Confirm whether the offer requires Prime membership and when it ends.
- Make sure the drive’s form factor, connection, and compatibility fit your intended device and use.
