TechRadar’s April 2026 comparison reports peak brightness of 3,500 nits for the Xiaomi 17 versus 3,200 nits for the Xiaomi 15. It also reports 2160 Hz versus 1920 Hz PWM dimming, respectively. The reviewer characterizes the brightness gain as noticeable but incremental; peak figures do not guarantee that every person will see a dramatic difference in everyday use. Confirm the exact display specification for your market before buying.

Xiaomi India lists the Xiaomi 15 with a 50 MP Light Fusion 900 main camera and optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50 MP 60 mm floating telephoto camera, and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera. Xiaomi UK lists the Xiaomi 17 with a 50 MP OIS main camera, a 50 MP Samsung JN5 60 mm floating telephoto camera, and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera. TechRadar’s April 2026 review says the rear camera specifications are the same across the two models, while its assessment of image results is the reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee of what every user will capture.

Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos. Sensor and lens details, stabilization, focusing behavior, processing and shooting conditions all matter. The cited regional pages do not provide a fully matched, same-market comparison for every camera detail, so avoid treating the lists as proof that every component or mode is identical.
The Xiaomi 17 belongs to a newer generation
Xiaomi’s investor release says the Xiaomi 17 Series debuted with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and HyperOS 3, and that the series was unveiled in September 2025. Those are series-level statements; they do not establish the precise chipset or software configuration of every base Xiaomi 17 regional SKU. Check the local base-model product page for those details rather than assuming the whole series has one worldwide configuration.

How to compare the price difference fairly
A meaningful price gap requires prices for the same country and storage tier, from comparable sellers, with equivalent warranty coverage. The available evidence does not establish a current matched pair, so a single numeric difference would be misleading. Prices also change, and a launch price is not interchangeable with a current sale or third-party listing.

- Match storage. Compare the same capacity on both phones; do not compare a higher-storage Xiaomi 17 with a base-storage Xiaomi 15.
- Compare like with like. Use official prices against official prices or current retailer prices against comparable retailer prices. Note whether each figure is a regular price, sale price or third-party offer.
- Record when you checked. A price gap is useful only with its country, currency, seller context and check date attached.
- Calculate the difference from those two figures. Subtract the Xiaomi 15 price from the Xiaomi 17 price, and treat the result as a snapshot for those exact listings—not a permanent or worldwide premium.
Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Xiaomi 15 if the local saving is meaningful
If the Xiaomi 15 costs materially less in your market and its features meet your needs, it may be the better value. Its cited India specification page already lists a 50 MP main, telephoto and ultra-wide rear-camera setup. Compare the actual discount against the features you would use, rather than assuming that an older model is automatically a bargain.

Choose the Xiaomi 17 if its newer-generation features justify the premium
