The Tractive CAT 6 Mini combines GPS location tracking with activity, sleep, and heart and respiratory monitoring. It can offer useful context about a cat’s routine, but it is not a medical device—and it comes with a recurring subscription, charging demands, and fit and GPS caveats. WIRED rated it 7/10 after a month of testing, praising its health insights while reporting practical frustrations.
What the CAT 6 Mini does
The CAT 6 Mini is a collar-integrated tracker that uses GPS and cellular networks to report a cat’s location. In the companion app, it also tracks activity and sleep and monitors heart and respiratory patterns. Tractive presents these features as ways to spot changes and trends, not as a substitute for veterinary care. Its product page says: “We alert you to any changes or longer-term trends that might need your attention, but medical advice and diagnosis should always be sought from a veterinarian.” Tractive’s product page makes that limitation explicit.
How well does it work in everyday use?
Location tracking depends on reception
The tracker needs cellular coverage to send location data, and its initial fix may take a few minutes while it connects to GPS satellites and cellular networks. Tractive’s setup instructions describe that startup delay. In her month-long test, WIRED reviewer Molly Higgins found the location information insufficiently granular and sometimes hit-or-miss. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee of how it will perform for every cat or in every coverage area.

Health and activity data can add context
Higgins praised the health monitoring and weekly AI summaries, which helped her understand her cat Basil’s routine. Those features may make shifts in activity or patterns easier to notice, but the available review does not establish clinical accuracy, and Tractive says the device does not diagnose conditions. Use concerns about a cat’s health as a reason to consult a veterinarian, not to rely on an app reading.

Battery life varies with use
Tractive advertises up to seven days of battery life when Power Saving Zones are enabled. Higgins reported needing to charge the tracker by day four on her indoor-only cat during her test. These are different kinds of evidence: one is the manufacturer’s “up to” estimate under a named feature setting; the other is an individual reviewer’s result under her own conditions. Neither predicts every owner’s charging interval.
Will it fit your cat, and is the clasp practical?
Tractive lists the tracker at 1.1 ounces including the collar and gives a neck-circumference range of 7.5 to 9.0 inches. The product page also specifies an intended cat weight range; check the current listing against your cat before buying. The setup guide calls for the adjustable breakaway buckle, fitted snugly but not tightly, with room for two fingers between collar and neck. The tracker should sit on top of the neck.

Higgins found adjustment and removal difficult, particularly given reduced grip and fine-motor function. That is a relevant usability caveat: a collar that fits on paper may still be awkward for a particular owner to fasten or take off. Check that you can operate the buckle comfortably before relying on it.

What does the subscription cost?
Cellular location data requires an active subscription; the built-in SIM uses mobile networks, and the plan pays for connectivity. When Tractive’s US product page was accessed in 2026, it displayed these prices. They are billing equivalents for the stated commitment periods, not month-to-month rates; verify the current price and availability for your country before purchasing.

These are the amounts displayed on Tractive’s US product page when accessed in 2026. Because the subscription is needed for cellular location data, include the plan commitment—not just the collar price—in your decision.
How to set it up and fit it
- Download the Tractive app and turn on the tracker.
- Pair the tracker with the app over Bluetooth, then select a subscription plan to enable cellular location data.
- Use the weight-adjustable breakaway buckle and fit the collar snugly, leaving room for two fingers between collar and neck. Position the tracker on top of the neck.
- Allow a few minutes for the first location while the device connects to GPS satellites and cellular networks.
- Consider setting Power Saving Zones and virtual fences in the app. Power Saving Zones are also the condition named in Tractive’s up-to-seven-day battery estimate.
Tractive’s setup and fit guide covers pairing and collar adjustment. WIRED also noted that charging uses a proprietary magnetic cable, so keep the supplied charging arrangement in mind when planning routine charging.

Who is the CAT 6 Mini for?
- Consider it if you want location tracking plus a view of activity, sleep, and longer-term routine patterns, and you are comfortable paying for cellular connectivity.
- Think carefully if you need especially granular location information, want to avoid recurring fees, expect long intervals between charges, or find small buckles difficult to operate.
- Do not buy it as a diagnostic tool. Its health features are informational; medical concerns belong with a veterinarian.
In her October 1, 2026 review, WIRED’s Molly Higgins rated the CAT 6 Mini 7/10 after testing it on Basil for a month. Her favorable view of its health insights sits alongside reported drawbacks in charging, clasp usability, and location detail. Cats.com also reviewed the model in September 2026, but the available account does not support attributing additional specific performance results here.
