The TCL 65-inch M8LF Mini-LED 4K Fire TV is a plausible match for the 2026 gaming-TV deal in the headline, but the available reporting does not confirm that it is the intended TV or that it was offered for Prime Day. Tom’s Guide reported the model at Best Buy for $499, down from $799, on October 4, 2026—not as an Amazon Prime Day offer. Its listed 144Hz refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 ports and Auto Low Latency Mode make it worth checking if you want a feature-rich gaming TV, but confirm the exact model and live deal before buying.

Which TV does the headline appear to mean?

The best-supported candidate is TCL’s 65-inch M8LF, a 2026 Mini-LED 4K Fire TV. However, the cited coverage does not establish that it is the TV intended by the headline. Tom’s Guide included it in an October 4, 2026 article about premium TV deals readers would not find at Amazon for October Prime Day; the article listed it at Best Buy. That context does not confirm an Amazon listing or a Prime Day promotion.

Before treating a listing as the same deal, check the full model number, screen size, retailer, stock and current price. Similar product names or a headline’s reference to Prime Day are not enough to verify that a particular listing is the M8LF or that the offer is active.

What gaming features does the TCL M8LF have?

Tom’s Guide’s report lists a 144Hz refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 ports and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). Those specifications suggest a gaming-focused feature set, but the report does not include hands-on gaming tests, measured input lag, picture-quality measurements or comparisons with competing TVs. They therefore describe the reported specifications, not proof of how well the TV performs in a particular game.

Reported feature What it tells a buyer
144Hz refresh rate The reported maximum refresh rate. The game, connected device, signal format and TV settings determine what refresh rate you can actually use.
Four HDMI 2.1 ports The report lists four ports with this designation. It does not specify which ports support particular gaming signals on this model.
ALLM Can let a compatible gaming device switch the TV automatically to a low-lag game mode.
Mini-LED, 4K The report identifies the display type and resolution; it does not provide measured picture-quality results.

The same report lists Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG support, full-array local dimming and built-in Amazon Alexa. These are additional reported specifications, not independent test results.

What VRR and ALLM do—and what to verify

Variable refresh rate (VRR)

VRR synchronizes the TV’s refresh rate with a compatible gaming device. Amazon says this can reduce stutter and screen tearing, describing it as a way to deliver “smoother viewing.” Support is model-specific and requires a compatible device.

Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM)

ALLM allows a compatible gaming device to switch the TV automatically to its low-lag game mode. Amazon cautions that not every Fire TV supports ALLM or VRR, so check the specifications for the exact model rather than assuming Fire TV models share the same capabilities.

Refresh rate and HDMI ports

A 144Hz specification does not mean every game or connected device will output at 144Hz. Amazon says higher refresh rates depend on the game and device output settings. Its general Fire TV instructions say some supported models may require HDMI 1 or 2 for 120Hz or 144Hz at 4K/UHD; that guidance is model-dependent and does not establish the M8LF’s port mapping. Check the TV’s own manual or product support information for which inputs support the signal you plan to use.

Was the reported price a Prime Day deal?

No: the cited figure was a dated Best Buy price, not a verified Amazon Prime Day offer. Tom’s Guide reported $499, reduced from a listed $799, in its October 4, 2026 article. That is a retailer price reported at publication; it does not establish today’s price, current stock or the price history behind the former price.

To judge an offer you find now, compare the live price at the retailer with the exact model number and screen size, then confirm availability and the gaming features on that listing. The available report does not verify an Amazon listing for the M8LF.

How to decide if it suits your console or PC

Start with the device you will connect and the games you play. A high refresh rate matters only when your source device and game can output at a matching rate; VRR and ALLM are useful only when supported by both the TV and the device. Then verify that the specific input you will use supports the required signal.

  • Check your console or PC’s supported output resolution and refresh rates.
  • Confirm VRR and ALLM support for the exact M8LF model and your gaming device.
  • Verify which HDMI inputs support the signal you want; four HDMI 2.1 ports in the report do not specify port-by-port capabilities.
  • Compare the current offer for the same model and 65-inch size, not just a similar TCL name.

The cited evidence supports calling the M8LF a plausible gaming-capable option on specifications. It does not support calling it the best gaming TV or establishing that its gaming performance beats alternatives.
