No, not as a general verdict. Intel’s own April 2026 performance comparison shows its Core 7 360 (Wildcat Lake, marketed under Intel Core Series 3) ahead of the Snapdragon X X1-26-100 in several named tests. But those results were produced on different laptop platforms, they report “up to” gains rather than typical ones, and they say nothing about battery life, software compatibility, or price. The fair takeaway is that Intel’s chip led in specific workloads in that comparison, and the Snapdragon X’s standing depends on which workload and which laptop you are comparing.

What the title gets wrong, and what it gets right

The headline makes two claims. The first is that the Snapdragon X is “still better” than Wildcat Lake. The second is that it is “two years old.” Both need correcting before the performance numbers mean anything.

On age, the exact chip in the comparison, the Snapdragon X X1-26-100, was introduced in early 2025, according to the Notebookcheck article that matches this topic. As of October 2026 that puts it roughly a year and a half old, not two. The broader Snapdragon X platform may have an earlier history, but the sources reviewed do not establish a launch date for it, so “two years old” should be tied to a named product and launch event before it is repeated.

On performance, the word “better” is the problem. A processor is not better in the abstract; it is better at particular tasks, in particular machines, under particular power settings. The evidence available supports a narrower statement than the headline makes.

What Intel’s April 2026 figures show

Intel published a performance index dated April 10, 2026, comparing a Core 7 360 with a Snapdragon X X1-26-100. The Intel entry is tested at a stated 15 W PL1 on an Intel reference platform, while the Qualcomm entry is an HP OmniBook 5. Both list 16 GB of memory, Windows 11, and Best Performance mode, but memory speed, system design, and BIOS differ. The results below are Intel’s own “up to” figures.

Test (as named by Intel) Measure Core 7 360 advantage, “up to”
Geekbench 6 Single-core performance 30%
WebXPRT 5 (Chrome v.145) Web browsing 77%
UL Procyon Office Productivity Overall score 73%
3DMark Steel Nomad Light Unlimited Graphics 7%
UL Procyon Photo Editing Photo editing 30%
UL Procyon Video Editing Video editing 83%

Two things stand out. The gaps are largest in browsing, office, and video tasks, and smallest in graphics, where the advantage is only 7% at its maximum. Because each figure is an upper bound from a single test, none of them describes what a typical user will notice day to day.

Why these numbers cannot isolate the processor

The comparison pairs an Intel reference design with a commercial laptop. Cooling, firmware, memory configuration, and power management all influence scores on thin laptops, so part of any gap may come from the machine rather than the silicon. A clean chip-versus-chip comparison would need both processors in the same system, with matched memory and power limits. The Intel index does not provide that, and no matched independent test was identified in the sources reviewed.

Do not mix up the two Snapdragon X chips

Intel’s index also compares against the Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100, with different results. It reports up to 82% better video editing against that chip and up to 2.2x better Affinity content creation performance. Those figures apply to the X1P-42-100, not the X1-26-100, and should not be merged with the table above.

Naming: which Intel chip is which

Intel’s product listing uses the phrase “Products formerly Wildcat Lake” and names the Core 7 processor 350, Core 5 processor 320, and Core 3 processor 305, each shown with a Q2 2026 date. The performance index refers separately to the Core 7 360. Those names should not be treated as interchangeable. If you are choosing a laptop, the exact processor model printed in the product specification is what matters, not the family name.

What Qualcomm claims for the platform

Qualcomm’s January 2025 press release describes Snapdragon X as an eight-core Qualcomm Oryon CPU platform with a 45 TOPS neural processing unit. It names Asus, Acer, Dell Technologies, HP, and Lenovo among OEMs with Snapdragon X designs in production or development. The release states: “Utilizing the power of an 8-core Qualcomm Oryon CPU, Snapdragon X is delivering essential performance to the next-generation of PCs.” That is a vendor statement and does not name an individual speaker.

The same release claims up to 163% faster performance at ISO-power and 168% more power required by competitors at ISO-performance. Those are Qualcomm’s own claims, and the release does not present them as a direct comparison with Wildcat Lake. They should not be cited as a head-to-head result.

What is not established

  • Battery life: no matched, independent battery comparison between comparable retail systems was identified. Intel’s index does not measure it.
  • Software compatibility: the sources do not assess native app support on Arm-based Snapdragon X versus x86 Intel chips. Check that your specific applications run natively on the platform you are buying.
  • Price and configuration: current retail pricing, stock, and the exact configuration of any given laptop were not verified.
  • Thermals and sustained performance: the short “up to” tests do not show how either chip behaves over long workloads.

How to compare the two for a purchase

  1. Identify the exact processor model in each laptop’s specification, such as Snapdragon X X1-26-100 or Core 7 360, not just the family name.
  2. Confirm the laptop’s memory, storage, and power mode match the configuration you are comparing.
  3. Check that your core applications are available natively for the platform in question.
  4. Look for battery and sustained-load tests on the same laptop model, not on a different chip’s reference design.
  5. Compare the workload that matters most to you. If it is browsing or office work, the Intel index’s largest gaps point to those tasks, but they are still single-test upper bounds.
  6. Compare total price for the configuration you would actually buy.

Where that leaves the comparison

Intel’s own published tests show its Core 7 360 ahead of the Snapdragon X X1-26-100 in browsing, office, photo, and video tasks, with a smaller lead in graphics. Those results come from different laptop platforms and report maximum gains. The Snapdragon X X1-26-100 is also not two years old; it dates from early 2025. Whether either chip is “better” for you depends on the applications you run, the laptop you can buy, and the battery life you need, and those questions are not answered by the benchmarks alone.
