Yes—the Samsung S90H is a strong OLED choice for a room with windows or lights, chiefly because its matte Glare Free screen controls reflections well and its SDR brightness is very good. It is not glare-proof, though: ambient light can still lift blacks and mute darker colors, and large, very bright HDR scenes can look dimmer than small highlights.
How well does the S90H handle a bright room?
The S90H’s advantage is the combination of a matte screen and useful brightness, not brightness alone. RTINGS found its coating effective against direct and indirect light and rated the TV highly for bright-room viewing. Samsung calls the feature Glare Free; that name describes the screen treatment, not a promise that every reflection disappears in every room.
There is a picture trade-off in ambient light. RTINGS notes that light can raise the appearance of blacks and reduce dark-color saturation to some degree. If you watch mostly during the day, reflection control may matter more than absolute black depth; if your room is dim and you watch dark films, that lifted-black effect is worth weighing.
How bright is it, and what changes in HDR?
Tom’s Guide measured 1,497 nits of HDR brightness and 226 nits of SDR brightness at a 10% window on its 55-inch S90H sample. The review conducted its measurements in Filmmaker mode. These are results for that sample and test method, not guaranteed output for every screen size, mode, firmware version, or scene. Tom’s Guide’s S90H review and test table provide the measurement context.

Window measurements describe a small portion of the image, so they do not mean the TV will sustain the same brightness across a mostly white or otherwise bright scene. RTINGS reports that small HDR highlights pop, while very bright, high-average-picture-level scenes can look dimmer as the automatic brightness limiter reduces output. That distinction is relevant to snow scenes, bright sports footage, and other HDR content dominated by light areas.
Is the S90H a good gaming TV?
It is a capable option for console and PC gaming. RTINGS reports four HDMI 2.1 ports, with 4K/165Hz and variable refresh rate (VRR) support. Samsung advertises up to 165Hz, but reaching 4K at that refresh rate requires a compatible PC graphics card and game; it is a manufacturer specification rather than a guaranteed rate in every setup. Tom’s Guide reported 9.3 ms input lag in its comparison table, a result tied to the review’s test context rather than a universal figure.

FreeSync support varies by size in Samsung’s US announcement: 55- to 83-inch S90H models support FreeSync Premium Pro, while the 42- and 48-inch versions support FreeSync Premium. Samsung also identifies the line as NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible. Check the exact size and regional model’s specifications when choosing a PC display setup. | Comparison | S90H advantage | Alternative advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung S90H vs. LG C6 | RTINGS says the S90H handles reflections better. | RTINGS says the LG C6 is brighter in HDR and supports Dolby Vision. |

Use the comparisons as guidance rather than a substitute for checking the exact size and regional version. Compare reflection handling, HDR performance, format support, gaming features, and the current local price. RTINGS’ S90H review discusses its test results and comparisons.
What formats and model details should you check?
RTINGS reports that the S90H does not support Dolby Vision or DTS. If you rely on either format, check the format requirements of your video sources and audio setup before buying rather than assuming support from the TV’s HDR or audio capabilities.

Panel construction can differ by size and market. RTINGS identifies a standard WOLED panel across most North American sizes but reports different construction on some sizes; do not assume that description applies to every regional S90H. Confirm the exact model code and local specifications. Samsung’s US product family lists 42-, 48-, 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch sizes and identifies the 55-inch model as QN55S90HAEXZA. Samsung’s US S90H page is the reference for that listing; regional size, code, price, and availability may differ.

Consider it if reflection control is a priority and you want OLED picture quality, gaming features, and good SDR brightness in a room that is not consistently dark. Look elsewhere if your main requirements are Dolby Vision or DTS, or if your preferred HDR content depends on sustained brightness across large areas. The S95H sits above the S90H and the S85H below it in Samsung’s 2026 OLED family, so the S90H is a mid-line model rather than the flagship. Compare current local prices and verify the exact size and model before deciding.
